Robin's work on the next is done so there's not lots for him to do here except the elusive promo and he'd rather be on stage.

This was my favorite bit of info, we know there's more!

Peace,

Axl-

And Checkmate is a bogus title.

I also was glad to FINALLY find out Checkmate is indeed real.  For years I thought this one was fake based on the bad recording clip we had.  I wonder if the "Jackie Chan" title thing was a joke?

I personally thought it was one cool fucking move.

I think this is great.  Kudos to Axl!   I thought the man was very fucking cool for doing this and handled himself very well.

The video and some decent promotion will really help the sales, guarantee it.

...that is what I was hoping for but unfortunately there wasn't much to satisfy!  Good point BLS about the Broken Heart Soundtrack.  That's fine for a FEW songs but bust out some kick ass rockers for us as well.  For fuck's sake you had BUCKETHEAD and you can't blast out a couple more?

Looks like Uncle Axl said "fuck it" to CD but why I have no idea.  Sadly it does look like he took the Best Buy deal to break even basically.

Man I gotta pick that up, I haven't even seen the movie yet I've been waiting to watch it on my home setup but I'm broke until payday (Friday) so I have to suck it up a couple more days!!!

I agree with James on this, had CD been released back in 2002 it would have been a much bigger hit.  Many of the fans (let alone we diehards) got really pissed off by all the excuses, delays, blown chances, etc. The album went from myth to joke in the public's eye.  Losing the key members of the lineup didn't help any either.  I think the death nail was Axl saying "this year" in 2006.  The "Tuesdays left" countdown didn't help.  That year was the last chance CD had to get maximum effect.  I still think the album can (and probably will) be saved to some degree but it will take some participation by Axl, some better promo and a video would go a long way.  Of course a video may not be possible...we don't even know if there is a band left to do a video.

May be worth a look, easily one of the best albums of the 90's and far better than 99.9% albums released anytime after 1995 (the REAL year music died).

#289 Re: Guns N' Roses » what are we disappointed with? » 875 weeks ago

I have a few disappointments. The lack of promotion, no videos and a silent Axl being the first wave.  I think the album is good and I'm glad it is finally out but a video, some more (significant) promo and Axl acting like he gives a fuck would be nice.

Another disappointment is songs like The General/Something Always not being on the album and if this album flops the strong chance that the other rumored tracks will remain tucked away in a dark room for a long time to come.

Finally the Best Buy deal.  Best Buy has not, will not and could not help the sales of CD the way an exclusive at Wally World could or (better yet, imo) NO exclusive.  This along with little promo, silent Axl and no videos REALLY has hurt potential sales.  I think the album will creep along until we see decent sales but it will be a slow process.  It will happen...yes, I do think it will.

A cool leather jacket (it was half off and I'm cheap!).
