#3941 Re: Dust N' Bones & Cyborg Slunks » the new vr singer is? » 892 weeks ago
The prospect of Lenny fronting them actually gets me excited about what new music VR could come up with. I just can't picture him singing any Scott stuff, he sounds nothing like him.
But how fuckin cool would it be to hear Slash ripping it up on Always On the Run, Fields Of Joy. They could even play Are You Gonna Go My Way, and that hidden gem off Duff's first solo album - The Majority.

I think it's a great hard rock/metal album along the lines of Skid Row's best material.

Metallica have always recorded great cover songs.
The thing that excites me the most about this though, is that usually their covers are recorded and thrown together pretty quickly, and judging by the quality of this their new album must be pretty fuckin good.

i love slash, he is amazing, why am i one of the minority that thought libertad was pretty awful ?
I'm in pretty much the same boat. Aside from some cool soloing here and there (Let It Roll, Just 16) I think the album is Slash's most uninspired work, not to mention you can barely him alongside Dave Kushner's farty guitar sound.

The Screaming Jets opened for VR when they toured in Australia back in 2005, so they probably kept in touch since then for Matt to make his appearance on the album.

I thought there was a topic already started about this great Aussie rock band, but that must've been on the last incarnation of this site. Anyway, I thought I'd start another topic about them because a) they kick ass, b) they have a new album out soon, and c) Matt Sorum was also involved in the new album too!
The Screaming Jets (3 platinum & 3 Gold albums with a host of Platinum and Gold singles) are finalising their 6th studio album and 1st with US producer Stevie Salas who recently produced Daughtry debut album. Currently being re mixed by legend engineer producer Brandon Frieson (Nickleback) The Jets have also secured a guest on the album, Guns N' Roses drummer Matt Sorum performing percussion. All three hold Grammys in their own right.
Latest word is that the album will be released in September.

#3947 Re: Dust N' Bones & Cyborg Slunks » Slash joins Fergie on stage for a rendition of SCOM » 894 weeks ago
SCOM from Slash's birthday sounds great, Slash pulls it off like he hasn't skipped a beat from his GN'R days.

Yeah, I read something further from Bob Rock, where he said that the reason St Anger sounds like it does, is because their main songwriter (James Hetfield) wasn't there for most of it because of all the rehab stuff he'd gone through, and the head space he was in at the time. I think the majority was cut and paste in pro-tools by Bob and Lars to make them kinda sound like songs.

Well, you'll be happy to hear that most of the stuff you're asking for seems to be what you're gonna get on Death Magnetic. Kirk is soloing, James is sole lyric writer, Lars mentions songs with tempo changes, and they've even stated Rob's great musicianship has really stepped them up, I suppose in the same way Cliff Burton did.
My point is that St Anger was never a "return to their roots", while with Death Magnetic they have been saying that it is. And in the sound clips I've heard, I'd have to agree. Definitely their strongest material in years.
Metallica is my second fav band to GN'R too, I guess us Aussies have good taste in music!

Bob Rock described them as having a 'back to the garage' vibe in terms of raw production like you mentioned, but I still don't recall anything about "returning to their roots"
I would've thought if you'd watched that movie you'd understand St Anger more anyway.
That documentary shows the band on the verge of splitting, and St Anger was the catharsis for them to get it all out and move forward so they could still be a band.
And that's the thing here too, most people don't realise, that if there was no St Anger, there would probably be no more Metallica.
Oh, and I dig St Anger, tin-can drums and all.
