Teenage bullshit lays the foundation for that person's adult life. People making fun of you at school, the false social heirarchies encouraged especially in a high school setting, are potentially very dangerous at a time when your mature identity is still being developed. I think the people who dismiss teenage problems as moronic are too far removed from the situations themselves to sympathize with how little an adolescent mind can actually cope with to that point. If you really don't think those sorts of issues that would only affect young people are things that should be treated with care or responsibility, tell that to the kids in Littleton, Colorado. A call for help is a call for help.

#462 Re: The Sunset Strip » Comic Book Adaptations » 906 weeks ago

This current era of comic book adaptations was really kickstarted by the intelligent, respectful approach originally taken to the X-Men property by Bryan Singer and the fan response that followed. While its been an overall mixed bag, the general consensus among comic fans, myself included, is that a lot of these current adaptations are at least getting something right. Axlin08, I think your words hold truer to the comic movies of old, specifically the '80s and barren '90s (Judge Dredd, The Phantom, The Shadow et al.). Some would say the original Batman or Superman franchises. While later entried certainly ran those franchises into the ground, I largely stand behind the originals. For example, Singer's criminally underrated Superman Returns was a real harkening back to Donner's original Superman. It was essentially an homage with heavy religious symbolism, which apparently offended many peoples' idea about this iconic character. Movies like the upcoming Watchmen and even Sin City and V for Vendetta before it are showing a move by the studios away from the comfort of their superhero properties and into strict comic adaptation. That's something really exciting to fans. We've never seen anything like this coming out of Hollywood before. A movie like Watchmen being made on that scale and that faithfully (or so it would appear) is a real leap of faith for a commercially driven industry to take. It shows a lot of goodwill and faith in this existing fanbase. For once, comic fans should have little to complain about in the way of being taken seriously. They rule Hollywood.

I remember various controversies with the Travoltas over this kid because they are into Scientology.

Well Kelly's already blamed his health and death on toxins you find in such items as household cleaners. I'm guessing we can expect them to go extra crazy with the Scientology now.

They just lost their son. They can go as "crazy" as they feel they need to. People grieve in their own ways.

My condolences to the Travolta family.

How would we like to compare him to Dylan? As a vocalist he's clearly superior. As a lyricist/songwriter, in my opinion, he's superior as well. I don't like Dylan. Actually, I fucking hate Dylan. I don't much like Hendrix either. Not my style. I think Duane Allman was a better, more inovative player around the same time who also died young and receives little to none of the recognition on the scale Hendrix does. I've got respect for Hendrix, sure, but I'm tired of people in all walks of life, be they critics or fans, making these assumptions about the untouchables, the greats, the ones you just don't fuck with. "Well, they're not Zeppelin!" Fuck Zeppelin, too. My point is that we shouldn't bother with the comparison at all. For as many people as would scoff at comparing Slash to Hendrix or Dylan to Rose, there are as many more who would see things the other way around. Everybody's got an opinion, but the idea of these gilded bands and artists really needs to die if music fans are ever going to be allowed the freedom of a real, intelligent debate. Until that happens, no point in comparing, it'll just turn into a mess.

A casting call has already begun for Rob Zombie's H2, which begins filming January in Los Angeles, CA (man, that was fast!). Here's who they're casting so far: [HOWARD BOGGS] - Caucasian - 6'4" - age open. HOWARD is the huge, thick necked bouncer at the 'Rabbit in Red' night club. He's not a pierced-tattooed-rocker type, but more of a hard workin' fist fightin' beer drinkin' bouncer." The call reports that they "are starting on this right away, so please only submit people who are in town for the holidays and able to audition this week." It looks like Zombie has been writing the screenplay for quite sometime now. We're told Scout Taylor-Compton, Tyler Mane, Malcolm McDowell, Daeg Faerch and Sheri Moon Zombie will all be returning. The new film picks up right as the first remake ended, following the aftermath of Michael Myers' murderous rampage through the eyes of the sister he hunted.

The new issue of Maxim (I know...real great source for music) has Spacehog frontman, Royston Langdon listed as their lead singer on their "most anticipated" section. Problem is, it looks like they took an old VR photo with Scott and photo-shopped Langdon's head on Scott's body.

I just got the issue and saw that, too. I was just coming in here to post it. Yeah, after the Black Crowes debacle, what little "credibility" this magazine had went out the window. I just look at it for the perty girlies really. Still, I'm one of the few who's long championed the addition of Langstone to this lineup. As always, we'll see.
