#5261 Re: The Garden » The Energy Non-Crisis » 912 weeks ago

Yeah I'm not trying to say it doesn't raise an eyebrow. Another board I visit someone posted the article of how the economy would collapse in "September" back in something like March or so. I've never read all the posts, but I'm sure there were naysayers etc. Sure enough, once that first day the market crashed, someone bumped the thread back up.

Anyway, it raises curiousity, but the guy isn't really risking his career here. I heard about this article, and the guy was a chaplain on the Alaskan Oil pipeline crew back in the 70's. So he's VERY tied in to the alaskan oil industry. As buzz said, that's where he's getting his advice. It'd be like if the Governor of Michigan spoke about how the US economy will collapse if GM doesn't get the bailout. Not really shocking. It raises thought & alarm, but not really unexpected, just 2 sides to every argument. Look at T Boone Pickens, he says we need to give up on oil altogether.

EDIT: I found the post: ( http://www.phillyblog.com/philly/nation … post813865 ).  It was started in July. It's really hit & miss. The economy sure tanked in Sept, but gas never rose 500% or hit $7 gallon. In fact it dropped. Significantly. It says the gov't could run out of finances in Feb. I guess that's possible with the bailouts & once we begin next years budgeting.

Well he's just a regular old Nostradamus isn't he?!

Sure people wrote articles about how the credit collapse would occur. People also wrote articles on how the Dow Jones might reach 20,000. With a million articles on the net, odds are one of them matches what occurs. Doesn't mean the same people are going to predict the future twice.

I agree it's sappy & lovey dovey. It's an ok song. Shows talent, but I agree with you on that. Not sure I get what you mean, care to elaborate on the 'ghost of pride' thought?

I expect some resistance from a GnR site obviously, but I really figured some of the old timers would be able to look at it more honestly than they did when they were 16.  Axl Rose = Hinder and all the other fluff bands out there minus the name Guns N' Roses.

Not trying to start a war with you or anything, I just like the AFD lyrics tremendously. All of em. Even Think About You is great to me.

I'll give it an 8. The music is very good, but some of it is bogged down in over-production issues. And a few of the songs shouldn't be on the album (Scraped, Shackler's, and Riad come to mind).

I agree. Surprised we're giving it 8's, but it's ok. I think I understand his direction, I may not agree with it, or like it, but I see where he was going.. (i think?! hmm)

Try to not factor in the wait, or if it's worth the wait. Just overall on the album itself.

I give it an 8. Pretty solid.

Yeah promotion was lacking. Axl should have done an RS interview, he'd have been on the cover.

The BB deal was just to make $$ on the backend. It had nothing to do with getting added promotion.

Interesting. Probably alot of truth in that.

I think another album may get here somewhat sooner rather than later. Within a year or two. I think there's another album of nearly done songs, that are probably pretty good.

I don't think I saw this yet, so thought it'd be interesting to start it. Please note: it's the "Favorite song" thread, not the "Please discuss the fact you don't have a favorite song & they're all great" thread.

So if you can't think of one or any, please don't post or create a side discussion.

Me, I gotta say CITR caught me by surprise. Myb it's cause the only leak i heard was from youtube & not on a good stereo. But I think it's one of the songs where to me, it sounds like a band. Not a solo album with bits & pieces mixed together. I still like Street of Dreams alot too.

You guys really think SCOM and NR are lyrical masterpieces?  Wow is all I can say.  A 10 year old could have written them to his first puppy love (especially SCOM).  Wake up.  Axl is not a fantastic singer (see his live performances as proof), he's not a magical song writer (see HIS whole body of work as proof - do you think he rerecorded some of the vocals for live era because they were good?)

Not for nothing but I wholeheartedly disagree. I think Axl is a phenomenal songwriters, possibly the best of my generations era (Maybe Bono, Vedder & Kiedes are up there as well imho). I also think SCOM is a tremendously well written song. A little short in word length, but to me, a great song/poem. NR is also, although I hate the finished product. The piano & acoustic demos were much better. He's a big part of what seperated GnR from Poison, Crue, Skid Row etc..

My problems with Axl are more as a person/diva/baby whatever. The whole taking the stage late, cancelling shows etc is wierd, strange, and inexcusable. Anyone about to attempt to disagree on that should stfu.
