But Slash's guitar in this is weak. The opening sounds like a ham-fisted amateur. Kind of stunned to be honest.

Hmmmm, I would compare it to Axl's vocals on Madagascar (just as an example). It's played intentionally fragile and vulnerable, or at least that's how I perceive it. I mean, there's no way Slash be happy with a simple part like that if that's not exactly the way he wanted it to sound, right?

*edit* listening to it more closely, that part is double-tracked with a clean guitar as well, kudos to him for getting it so right on both takes.

Either way, blistering cool groove in the song, this one I like.

Aargh, I want it, badly.

He's really good at promoting this with limited means as well, by the way. I love these little videos and updates.

Actually reading High Fidelity by Nick Hornsby right now.

How does that stack up against the movie? I love that flick, but I'm afraid it's 'cause of the great performances by Cusack and Black.

Been delving into my Terry Pratchett collection of late, worked my way through quite a few but stalled at Feet Of Clay when I fell off the book wagon and started vegetating in front of the TV again. Started on the most recent one "Unseen Academicals" the other month and struggled to get into it, I might put it off and go back to Feet of Clay and work my way through to it.

Tried very hard to get into "The Colour of Magic", but I just can't. I know people rave about these books like there's no tomorrow, but his style just doesn't work for me. So I'm currently (finally) reading Kafka's "The Trail", just to get that under my belt.

As a side note, are you guys into e-books at all? I'm reading the trial on my Nexus One, and it's surprisingly comfortable for a phone (and damn handy when I need a brake at work wink ).

Thanks monkey, nice find.

Owkay, there's three, maybe four potential singles in there. The metal tracks and ballads are very, very good. Not too sure about the mid-tempo rockers. The Lemmy song... pfffff, first thing to pop into my mind was "what? does anyone still record bog-standard riffs like that?". The chorus redeems it a little bit, but I'm still not convinced. "Ghost" is cool though, the Izzy influence is certainly there, and makes the song shine.

But man, Beautiful Dangerous, great song. It's reminiscent of Christina Aguilera's "Fighter", but edgier, I really hope they push this one hard. I want to sit in my car, tuned in to my fav. radio station and be pleasantly surprised by this song once in a while. Chains and Shackles deserves a special mention as well, like that one a lot from what I can tell.

One thing I think they could've done a bit better was the sound of the guitars. Slash has a great overall tone, but he needs to bring it up to modern standards, give it a little more bite (without losing it's distinctive character). It used to be more raw too, it has become a little too smooth for my liking.

But it sounds like it's going to be a great album. Looking forward to it more than ever.

No spoilers, I'm only 8 hours (or 3.3 inches) in! wink
How long did it take you to finish it? Do you feel like replaying to see the different story arcs?

I dunno I"m going to say about 10-12 or so.  I"m really not sure.  I played it the one day I got it, then didnt touch it again until yesterday.  Yesterday I played for about 5 hours on and off.  Prior to starting up again yesterday, I was a more than halfway done with the chapters.

I really feel no need to replay it.  But I hardly ever do with games.  I got the good ending and I'm happy with it.  Probably going to sell it and get Bad Company 2.

Feel free to use the spoiler tags and let me know where you are.

Ok, so I just finished it yesterday. Amazing game, I wll definitely play it again to try and do some stuff different this time around.

As for my ending, I also got the "good" one, but there's so much variations that I just need to play it again:

Hidden Text:

When the cops show up at the motel, I didn't manage to escape, so Ethan ended up in jail and was out for me, for the rest of the game. In the end, I figured it out in both my Madison and Jayden scenes at about the same time. Madison tried to stop Shelby in his apartment, but got caught and only just escaped the burning building. Jayden (with the geolocation clue thing in ARI) found the warehouse and won the fight with Shelby that occured there (Shelby fell into a metal grinder, cool stuff).

I'd love to know what happens when you can save the kid with Ethan instead the FBI bloke, the stand-off between Shelby and Ethan there should be interesting. Or what if Madison would've found the password on the computer in Shelby's apartment, would she have gone to the warehouse? And then all the bad endings (heard of Ethan shooting his brains out on the cemetery with Madison watching), but I can't bring myself to play specifically for those.

I believe in the ideal game, you should end up with everyone saved (except Shelby perhaps) and Madison, Ethan and Shaun ending up as a happy family. I'd like to play to get that ending... smile

So yeah, I loved it wink

How can you be "friends" with her? They seem close enough, but how can Slash be a normal living breathing guy and not want to take it up a notch? Perla must really like the commercial side of this if she's fine with it wink.

From what I can tell, this sound like a pretty good song, but it's not done justice by a bootleg recording. The Stockdale thing, you could tell straight away 'cause of the tasty lick, but this sounds like it hinges on it's groove which kinda got lost in the recording here...

I personally think that showing up with Bill Gates & BEP is lame as hell. If Slash were doing those type of things with artists I enjoy, I might feel differently (example: MJ).

That's exactly why I feel discussing this (and venting this sort of opinion) is silly at best. It's like discussing your favorite color, you can't win or lose, there's not even a reasonable conclusion you can come to.

I had a serious dislike for MJ and the stuff Slash has done with him. I even prefer his Blackstreet collab above all things MJ... but who am I to hold his choices against him?
And I know, you think it's "selling out", just 'cause he does some of this stuff purely for the money (e.g.: Bill Gates). But so what? Does that really affect the rest of his work so much that you went from being a fan to hating his guts?

Who's calling their opinion truth? And we're all here to share our opinions right? I don't see anything egotistical about that. I apologize if it's coming off that way, it's certainly not the intention.

Erm, what? So, ok, English is not my mother tongue, but doesn't the first part in bold above directly contradict the second part in bold? If this is some weird saying that I've never heard before that doesn't mean what it seems to mean, then I apologize for going off like that. If it isn't, then I'm sure you can see what I was getting at, right?

I must confess that I'm a money loving capitalist pig myself, I see nothing wrong with Slash doing those things just for the money. I'd have to be quite a hypocrite to say otherwise. Maybe that's why I'm so protective of him and his shenanigans, if you call him a whore, you might as well call me a whore. I'm not a whore.

Yeah, perception is a funny thing. I couldn't disagree more with what you're saying, but can't be bothered to argue against it. You guys are obviously more than convinced of how you feel towards him that there just doesn't seem to be a point in even trying to repair some of the damage that was somehow done.

So yeah, if you feel VW commercials, cringeworthy Bill Gates appearances, actually giving interviews with your heart on your tongue, guitar hero endorsements, having small parts in movies, performing with the BEP's, Blackstreet or MJ type acts, doing charity gigs, sponsoring contests, putting out signature gear with major manufacturers, ... generally making money and loving your job... makes you a whore, then so be it. I would say you've got your priorities mixed up, but hey... who am I.

I for one couldn't care less. I love his licks, solos, songs, fan interaction and overall guitar sound so I love seeing him out there doing stuff regardless of his extra curricular activities.

The only thing that does bother me though... you guys feeling the constant need to vent your feelings and calling them "truth" for some odd egotistical reason.
