I still can't hardly believe that no NWA wrestlers ever made the rounds to Carson, Letterman, Arsenio, etc.

I was reading more of the Observer newsletters. It's late 89.

Arsenio Hall wanted NWA/WCW to send some of their wrestlers to his show.

They ignored the request.

He then personally called them...asked for The Freebirds, Lex Luger, Flair and Missy Hyatt, among others....and NWA/WCW refused.

Their reasoning?

He let WWF wrestlers appear on his show.

The incompetence is unbelievable. You would think they would have learned from Crockett's failures...but no...same as it ever was.

Yes WWF stars appeared on all the morning and late night shows...and it's a big reason why the WWF was such a huge aspect of pop culture in the 80s and 90s.

So they decide to punish their own company and wrestlers because McMahon was successful at it.

I was thinking about this when you mentioned that Sting match the other day. Sting should have been a bigger star and had some cross cultural appeal if NWA/WCW bothered promoting their company like WWF did.  I mean if roided out guy like Warrior could achieve that type of appeal there's no reason Sting shouldn't have done the same.  Maybe not to the Hogan level but still he would have been a lot more well known.

This is why they were always kind of behind the WWF.  I think the wrestling for WCW/NWA may have been better but the WWF killed them in promoting their own product.

I do think Bischoff tried to remedy this a bit when the NWO phenomena hit (some of it was for ratings though) by booking celebs to  raise the profile of  WCW but it was too late as the WWF had established their hold on that since the 1980s.

That's the role/infleunce of ECW there.  Just the brawling/garbage style of wrestling there (I'm not saying this as a negative either).  Even Austin (forced by injury of course) modified his style. He used to incorporate a lot more wrestling holds/maneuvers before transitioning to the kick stomp stunner template his matches had.

That's not even the best Mankind-Undertaker brawl style match.  The 1996 Summerslam one was far better.  This one just had the iconic moment.

I'm late on this but the Bears solution to their qb issue (for 2020) anyway was to sign a maybe over the hill Andy Dalton?  Sounds like another
7  to 9 win season in CHI.

Unless we absolutely need to, we should not intervene at all in Eastern Europe.  It's just messy over there with all types of issues like Belarus' election and human rights issues.

Sigh.  If only the red head had 1/10 the work ethic of Slash.  The stuff on Snakepit is good with Axl singing it would have been great.

Jeepers Creepers— not half bad.  Watchable and at times pretty exciting/ scary but the plot needed work and really holds this film back.  It’s fine as a B level horror film, though it could have been more.

There’s nothing wrong with Biden’s presidency being a one term/return to normalcy/transitional whatever you feel like calling it.

Never had any issue with Flagg so I don’t know why he stopped posting.  Yes, I know he had issues with others but it wasn’t to the Buzzsaw level.

While I wish the site was more active, I realize why it's not.

It is literally the worst band to be a fan of. Every other legacy act/nostalgia trip actually does something.

Even if what they were doing wasn't to do with music. If they were just active in any meaningful way it would provide something to talk about.

Absolutely.

A good example is the other legacy/nostalgia act I'm a huge fan of...

Fleetwood Mac

They don't release new music and never will. Last album by the classic lineup was released in 1987...and then the live reunion album in 1997.

Other than off and on touring, they've done various documentaries such as the making of Rumours, they do many interviews discussing the turmoil over the years, and most importantly, they liquidate the vault with various deluxe editions and box sets.

They're interesting and worth following even though they never record anything new. You can ignore them(which I do) and then check in every few months and there will be something news worthy.

A fan can ignore GNR for years, check in, and it's exactly the same. Literally no movement on any front in any direction.

It's not a real band. Period. It does not have real management. Period. It has a real label but for reasons unknown, the label doesn't give a shit.

It is a retirement fund for three people. That is it. If a pandemic hits or any other future crisis that impacts future touring, no news is released to fans. Why? Because they don't give a shit. It's just a pause in the flow of cash to their retirement account. When Slash or Duff do something solo, nothing comes from this either.

Every now and then an employee or Slash will make an extremely vague comment about new material but they don't even believe it themselves.

The reunion has lasted almost as long as the original run....and it already has lasted longer than the 87-91 run....which is the meat and potatoes of the band's legacy.

More movement is being made with Soundgarden and their singer has been dead for four years and their music is tied up in legal nonsense.

What has been done to this band is a travesty.

Bingo and spot on. This band does jackshit.  No communication or releases (of ANY sort).  It’s like a ghost band which only shows up to tour.  Acts who are dead (like Hendrix) release more stuff than this “band”.

As far as the small back catalog, that is Axl’s fault for being so damn lazy for years and not releasing anything

This will become a big issue in the coming 10-15 years as most of the iconic artists/bands are dead or too old to tour.

The music industry, which has weathered many storms over the years...will soon face its biggest crisis.

The quality or lack thereof with music completely altered its role in our culture. It has no genuine impact anymore. It is background noise to whatever is going on in your life. Disposable music coming from disposable artists on disposable devices in a disposable culture.

It shouldn't have been this way.

It's just elevator music at this point.  There is no meaning anymore or variety.  Plus a  lot of these people can't really "sing" either.  There's no hooks or melody in any of this stuff in the USA anyway.  Some of the hip hop stuff is even more worse.  Just banal crap.

You have to go the foreign countries to find any sort of interesting rock music.

I was looking through some old thread and I saw Olorin and Intercourse posting there.  Those are two guys who haven't posted in awhile.

Part of this is that this "band" releases nothing.  I mean even if you're an old band that does nothing but tour there's like live performances, rarities that you can always pull out of the catalog to entice and excite the fan base.  This band...crickets.

Add to that the combative/half assed approached in fan relations (cough...Fernando)  and this is why GNR forums die or are half dead.  I mean there's just nothing there if you're a fan of this band and care about the music.
