Personally I like The Stones. Great band.
As for the Beatles, I understand peoples viewpoints, however try to name 5 bands that were around before the Beatles, now name 5 bands that came out after them. As for lacking substance, they evolved, and helped shape music writing. Listen to I wanna hold your hand & Love Me Do, then 3+ years later they were writing A day in the life, Let it Be, Come Together & Strawberry Fields Forever. Pretty impressive evolution in a few short years, going from singing about a PG rated date to later basically singing about acid.

Saw Creed mentioned in the overrated thread & I remembered this one: The song from the first album "What's this life for", I always thought he yelled "Got a Wookie, Wookie, Wookie" at the end (Wookie as in Chewbacca). It was years later I learned it was actually "One king" or something.

For a LONG time I was on a personal crusade against Creed for being 100%, complete and totally overrated.
Until about 2003 came around and everybody else on the planet realized Creed is crap also.
Slightly off topic, did you ever see the episode of Jamie Kennedy Experiment (Similar to Punk'd but actually was out before it) where he is down in Myrtle Beach or Cancun on Spring Break, and posts huge signs up for 'Creed - Live tonight'. Then as the crowd gathers & anticipation builds, the curtain rises & he's some old hippie with a sign "Joe Creed" behind him onstage. Tons of drunk college kids are standing around looking like "WTF is this?!" while he's up there playing some old crappy acoustic guitar. I'll look for it on youtube.

My Morning Jacket & Death Cab for Cutie

I have to disagree with U2 due to longevity & changing it up with the times. 25 years of being relevant is an accomplishment. Achtung Baby & on is wayyy different from their 80's stuff, another achievement. I agree there are some diehard fans, and have always been, I never got them back then. But I give the band credit & respect them nowadays.
Nirvana I understand you nominating, but if you lived thru it, you know how they just exploded onto the music scene overnight & changed the music scene for years. MTV changed, got new DJ's, radio stations switched from trendy C&C music factory & MC Hammer to playing Jane's Addiction & RHCP. Granted, if they never formed these bands still were already popular, along with AIC & Soundgarden, but the explosion of Nirvana was something we won't see again for many years, who knows if it'll happen again but I'm glad I saw it ufold. It was likely similar to the Beatles & the British Invasion, the Grunge Explosion. (Not comparing Nirvana talentwise to the Beatles, but the rise to success)
Radiohead is good, and The Bends is great, as are some others, but I understand what APE is saying. Some people think they are far & away the greatest band of the 90's, & 1 of the best ever. I don't see it that way.
coldplay
I second that notion.
Just my $.02.

Stand By Me (the Stephen King movie) has that same sort of effect on me. Great writing that makes you wish you could go back to that magic time again.
That's one of James' and my favorite movies.

Good choices Gunslinger. I like the Doors, the whole "he's a poet" title confuses me sometimes. Although I think they are something you maybe had to live thru. Maybe like Eddie vedder, in 20 years they'll think he was some strange guy who sung wierd lyrics but at the time, it had a huge impact on songwriting of others.
IMHO Oasis is a bit overrated by some British. They are ok, but some in the UK talk about them being ofne of the greatest bands ever. Some great songs, 2 myb 3 good albums, I put them around Dave Matthews band or a little better than Live. Even a band like Weezer has more longevity.
Rush is a band I never got. Just never understood them. Talented musicians, just never liked the whole package.

Nice to see the Flyers finally pull out a win. I was at Saturdays game where they let up a goal with 4 seconds left then lost in OT.
Briere had a nice move on the shootout, it just barely squeeked in. Nice move to get Vinny Prospal, Flyers always bring former. I swear someday Rod Brind'Amour will be a Flyer again.

Hahaha, check out the editors note at the bottom of Hillary dressed as an Amish woman!!
I wonder if this is some backdoor agreement where she is admitting defeat but is getting these things out in the public eye so McCain will not be able to bring these issues up. This really seems to ridiulous for even her to think a picture will win her the election?? The picture isn't even that bad, I was expecting much worse.

I saw 3:10 to Yuma and I have to say, I didn't really like it. I think my expectations were waaay to high for this. The ending really bugged me.
I agree with you on that. I liked it, thought it was good. One of the better Cowboy movies in the last couple years, but certainly wasn't legendary. It seemed like it got alot of hype when it was out. I saw it about 2 weeks ago, decent. Ending was a bit anticlimatic, a killer ending could have really stepped it up a notch, but it seemed to make it a bit of a let-down. I think it was a remake though, and they didn't want to change the ending.
