I like how you can make the joke about robbing a gun store and everybody get why it's a bad idea, but once you talk about arming society people start to have the opposite idea. Suddenly they imagine the gun store will be robbed all the time now.
So why so much violence? There is in fact not that much violence except for in parts of the country. The real term has become racist now, so I'll use something else: "responsible gun owners" in America have about half the gun violence of Finland.

Why is it all so fucking difficult?
I kind of asked the same question a few weeks ago and apex twin gave a nice reply talking about Axl's anxiety issues.
When I read that I started thinking, yeah that makes perfect sense, but then I thought "I already kinda know this, why didn't I think about it?". And it occurred to me that his public persona is completely different from his actual personality. When you hear him on records spewing venomous lyrics with a screeching voice or see him on stage commanding the attention of 50,000 people with ease, your last thought would be that this guy suffers from stage fright.
So I think the public perception of him is completely warped from the real man and it creates a dissonance that is hard to grasp.
#643 Re: Guns N' Roses » Why no photo shoots after 1991? » 199 weeks ago
It's a bit strange. They did music videos together, so why so hard to arrange a simple band photo?
I'm trying to picture it. When they were about to release TSI there must have been somebody going "we need a band photo for this". I can't really see Axl going "no fuck that" because he can't be bothered. Maybe nobody dared to ask? Or they did and he kind of forgot about it in between court dates?
In any case it is a clear symptom of the estrangement of the band, particularly Axl. They practically only met him on stage from 91 onwards. Didn't travel with them, didn't live with them, didn't hang out with them.
Any other bands with weird dynamics like that?
#644 Re: Guns N' Roses » Can you see Slash leaving again? » 199 weeks ago
Back in the 90s somebody asked Slash, maybe it was Alan Niven, why he stuck around with a crazy fucker like Axl.
"Because I don't want to die penniless like my dad".
Slash got over his ego in 2006. With 100 million dollars and counting ending up in his pocket, Axl is going to have to push his buttons in a major way to get any reaction. And it doesn't seem like Axl got the energy for all that anger anymore.
I think this reunion will last until they croak.

Universal have this 360 approach to bands now, so I think it's a team decision these days.
I don't know who the decision maker is.

Which is fine. Axl wouldn't be able to produce anything of quality at his age anyway. I think he deserves a little bit of cred for not making an album just to do it.
#647 Re: Guns N' Roses » Could the first Snakepit album have been a good record with Axl / Duff » 199 weeks ago
I get goosebumps every time I hear this clip. The power in his voice is just beyond bounds. He had an absolutely incredible voice at the time. And while he starts off with the mickey he soon gets into the rasp and it sounds as good as anything he did in the 90s. There should have been a lot more stuff like that on CD. Hopefully he did record some tracks that we have yet not heard where he showcases it.

I'm not even sure I heard GN'R on the radio as a kid. Television in my country had nothing like that and the radio channels were very restricted too. I grew up rural, no elder brothers at my house or my friends houses. So seeing the Live Era promotion on TV in 1999 was my first introduction to GN'R music at all.
I would probably have gotten into them much earlier if I could only hear it. I didn't even know Oh My God existed until I started going on HTGTH in 00/01. At least for some parts of the world the mid to late 90s was a timeline where GN'R did not exist. I remember seeing those 80s hits album they advertised on TV, there was never any GN'R songs on them. My cousin had a poster on his wall at some point, and there was some talk at school when they toured here in 1993, so I knew about it but never heard it.
#649 Re: The Sunset Strip » Most Recent Movie You've Seen » 199 weeks ago
You never saw Network before? Man, you've been missing out.
A type of movie you wonder why it was ever made. They Live you can understand because Carpenter is a wacky independent filmmaker who can do what he wants, but Sidney Lumet was a studio guy, household name. Guess it was just that wild part of the seventies where you were allowed to do anything and even the conservative studio heads were ready to approve it.
#650 Re: Guns N' Roses » Guns n Roses=a joke » 199 weeks ago
Wherever Axl goes music doesn't get released.
Slash n Duff always had New albums to tour behind whether it was Snakepit, Neurotic Outsiders, Loaded, SMKC, Solo Albums, etc.
Until they rejoined GnR and Axl and his new music graveyard.AC/DC is another band that always has a New Album to tour behind, in fact Axl is the only singer to ever be in AC/DC that never recorded a AC/DC album.
Wherever Axl goes nothingness follows
Axl = death of New music
Not the perfect analogy when AC/DC have only had 3 singers, but I still loled.
