No way I'd participate in a 'Fortus vs. Slash dicsussion'.

And yet really, that's a big part of what this entire thread is - proposing that the new lineup aren't as good as the old ones... roll

Just sayin'! 16

Nice one, he comes across really classy in that interview. Shame that people onl;y want to talk Gnr in interviews but then I think it just reflects what most readers are interested in.

I'm afraid you have never seen Slash live. Not even a single video on youtube. BTW as I heard Usain Bolt runs faster than Fortus, so Axl really should sign him as the 457th guitarist.

Wembley twice, 91 & 92, Milton Keynes twice, 93. I'll concede I wasn't as near the stage, but yeah I;ve seen him. 22

Fortus wasn't running about like a nut (you could maybe catch Wembley 2006 on youtube), just intense and very cool. Kinda like Trent reznor back in 94, that vibe. cool

And not really "X versus Y" just making the point that his performance was quality and not second rate - Slash is an awesome player and I have nothing but respect for his music. wink

I go through moods where I don't care to hear some stuff by the bands I like, but it has nothing to do with whether the artist is being a good lil' worker bee and making goodies for me... otherwise my Joplin and Nirvana discs (among many others) would have been binned long ago! 14

I don't mean to be inflammatory, and this isn't addressed solely at the OP, but a lot of people have an amazing sense of entitlement around this band, I just don't get it... all GnR fans should read this regularly if they need a reality check: George R R Martin Is Not Your Bitch

Moving on, I visit HtGTH because they have news and stuff, plus it vcan be funny to read the BS some people post, but I wouldn't like to give it any of my personal time and post, that said I respect Jarmo for the most part, he;s riding herd on some VERY ornary broncos on there! 16

Well an alternate way to look at this would be, musicians have massive, MASSIVE egos, so if Axl brought in a superstar shithot guitarist and immediately started to plan tours, releases etc and had their work all over his new album, they've got him over a barrel and he'd have to concede to every demand they made, or they'd threaten to walk out and leave him back where he started.

I think they guy likes to have creative control a lot and it seems like he faced a situation like the one I outlined above with the old band, maybe he just wants to avoid getting involved with it again?

Any guitarist who's really a-list in that world is gonna be someone who has their own strong ideas, and instead of contributing them evenly like it seems the current lineup do, they could be on an ego-trip to make GnR theirs, to stamp their personality all over it.

I can get why that's not so appealing, he's been through a lot to retain control of GnR (rightly or wrongly, whatever) and probably doesn't fancy inviting in someone so distinguished and indispensible that he faces losing all that control yet again unless he gives them free rein.

Finally I saw the new band in 2006 and believe me there was NOTHING in my opinion second-rate about them., Fortus was actually one of the best performers I've ever seen and I mean EVER,he really rocked out and pissed all over Slash's "standing still with fag and hat" schtick...

Daft one for a Sunday... cool

Yesterday down at Camden Market I ran into an ex who used to be in a band, and it reminded me of her telling me back in about '97 that she knew a producer (and no I can't remember his name right now, it might come to me later - anyway fairly little-league UK based guy) who knew Bill Price, who produced UYI, and therefore knew GnR at that time.

The theory is everyone's only six degrees of seperation away from anyone else on earth, so do you have a six degrees from GnR story? 22

Lily Allen raked in the applause for being one of the first artists to go mainstream after being a success on MySpace, now she's griping that people didn't all go offline when it suited her and buy-buy-buy. Well tough luck, you can't just expect the internet to work for you and never against you.

I don't like her, I admit (though LDN was a catchy tune) - she's a fake cockney who was sent to one of the poshest school in the Uk, and I can't get behind any artists who tries to claim cred by being what they're not.

Spaniels can be snappy, I'd vote for a lab-cross of some kind. Any dog that was bred to hunt or work in some way is going to need a lot of attention, crossbreeds do have less genetic issues which will count down the line when the dog (who you'll all be in love with by then, believe me) starts to get old.

male dogs in my experience are no more difficult than females, and neutered males can be even more affectionate - don't forget dogs live in a brutal world (hence the saying "dog eat dog" lol) so the females aren't passive or recognisably feminine by human standards. hope that's not offensive, but a family friend helps out at a rehoming kennel and the male dogs get passed over a lot because of that misconception about them.
