#8851 Re: The Sunset Strip » Sebastian Bach- Angel Down » 927 weeks ago
OMG....how did this come about? You just don't want it?
I think i've posted my Sebastian story already on the board once..about how I got into Skid Row late after checking them out with GNR...and ended up freakishly meeting baz at the airport. And now i'm like a huge fan...
Anyways...to me Angel Down is a kickass record....and I got to say....I wasn't really expecting it to be...Baz's other solo outings aside from Skid Row didn't seem as good, and generally I'm more of a hard rock guy than a metal head...so this is right on the threshold of what I listen to....but I totally love this album.
The tracks with Axl were pretty good fun, i really dig "Back in the Saddle" as a juiced up Aerosmith cover...but I'm also pretty into the title track and American Metalhead - which is kinda cheesy at first but then works on that level so i just feel a primal urge to put my fist in the air!!! And i really like "By your side" too as its the kind of song I try and sing in the shower but just can't hit those notes!! Actually that's probably not the best review I could write..lol..but while at first it sounds generic..it winds up into a really pationate vocal performace from baz.
Anyways...i can understand that this isn't an album for everyone, but for those looking for a taste of classic baz...in the same kind of form he was in in Skid Row...but with an even heaver edge to the sound, for people who dig a bit of a drunken headbang and massive high screams with an air guitar solo...then i'd recommend it. I mean it is what it is...but for classic 80s style rock with but a modern sounding production and a balls out rockfest it delivered to me...so I'm a big fan.
Slightly off topic. But i REALLY REALLY want this version with the DVD. As due to getting into Baz late...i'm actually kinda a nutswinger of his new band. Cos i feel they replicate the classic songs with respect and class, and deliver a kickass live show. I saw Johnny Chromatic shredding back in 2005 from upclose and was so damn impressed. And as a modern baz fan - one thing thats been kinda a downer was that all the official live stuff i could get and all that was always with the old solo lineups or SR - and I want something to relive the 4 times I've seen the new band and loved it!!
Anyway..its a conincidence as I was going to post a thread asking for help to find this version the other day but didn't get around to it. .obviously the contest is random..so i'm not at all suggesting I should win cos I want it...as i'm sure there's lots of other out there who also do. But on a related note - i'm wondering that - if i don't win - if there is anyone on the board who has access to one of these from their local FYE that hasn't sold out or anything...or someone that's picked up a copy and doesn't want it anymore and would be ok to ship to Australia, i'm totally happy to paypal the costs and so forth. I've been trying to find this sucker in Australia but my local record store seems to only have the standard version with no dvd.

Two...months while they re-code for Rocket Queen?

Yeah i agree Neemo...i think pulling out of this would be much harsher than the harley add.
I mean that was just stock footage and they could overdub any song...a lot more work will have gone into making this song playable in the game - and given those people from the company were talking about playing the track like a few weeks ago...it looks all good so far!
I'm excited...I like the leaks we've had...and if its similar quality and fully mastered it promices to be a good listen

Hmmm...
I thought the Mo Cap stuff was just to make a cool looking CGI slash to have on screen.
I thought they make these games from the original masters, and that stuff isn't recorded explicitly for the game - its just they isolate particualr tracks from the original recordings. The sex pistols thing was re-done cos they had no originals.
Maybe i'm wrong, but i'd be really surprised if the band had to do anything for this, i figured they'd just cough up some pro tools master files or dumps of different track parts of the song.

Libertad isn't on par with some of Slash's best playing, ala It's Five O'Cock somewhere...but there's still some good music on it. She Mine and Get out the Door are pretty catchy and fun to have up real loud...and Let it Roll is one of the best songs i've heard in ages...just a simple fun song!

Great posts guys. I know i'm the resident Devil's Advocate poster in relation to the music industry on this board
Interesting stuff about the death of the record stores. it's been a bit different here in Melbourne Australia. There's always been the rare odd private record store (melbourne is a very small city by international standards) but most of the music stores are chain based. The real change was simply the death of one chain based music retailer (brashs) and the rise of another JB HiFi...and of course the inculsion of CDs in variety style stores like Kmart, Target, and so on. I can see that the kind of culture you guys used to have would sway my views on the matter too.
I guess what i'm trying to say about it all is I have a couple of issues with the new models:
Firstly...i feel its fine for established millionares like Trent to get on a high horse about music being free and so on, but he has had years of traditional commerical push to be able to back that move. My question is - yeah it works for an established band like NIN with a fan base and a known name - but what is the new unsigned band to do? What would GNR do if Slash, Izzy and Axl were the street kids of 1983 or whatever but in 2008? Like trent can afford to make a super-hi-res recording of himself and then give it away for free. What is a band like mine to do? Where do I get $1 Million dollars for a studio recording and even if I get it, if I'm then expected to sell the produce of that recording for free or pocket change - how is that viable for continued production of new albums? I fully endorse kicking the corporate assholes in the nuts like trent is - but I also see the need for some kind of viable way for music to sold. It costs a ton of money to make quality stuff, and we need to have a model that makes this money back even if it doesn't turn over a profit. And the NIN model is not that for any band other than an established name group.
The other alternative is to go "free love" and say all music should be made for free and kept for free. Which has a romantic vibe to it. But then we have to consider then - that would mean that studio level recodings will go to home-studio level on a mass scale. I mean my demos sound ok for the cheap money I make them on. But they sound shit compared to what $10million from Warner would sound like at a studio.n Its ok if we want to make this change but we have to understand thats what we'll get. Cos right now guys like trent can do it out of their own money - but thats because they are already rich - if we disable the industry there won't be new rich acts. But are new upcomming acts supossed to work night shift at kmart till they can save $500k for an album? The idea of having a record company to develop new acts isn't all bad.
Thirdly...what about finding new talent? If there is no R+D and No labels promoting stuff...how do we sift through thousands of myspace pages of kids playing crap, to find the new upcomming professional musicians. How do we find the GNR of yesterday today? Or even the new buckcherry's and co - and distinguish them from the posers and hacks. There needs to be some kind of record industy - yeah the old one was dodgy - but replacing it with stuff like NIN are doing only works for people like trent.
I think i'm alone in that view...but hey!! It's fun to tell ya'll what i think!;)

Great Job guys. I think this is a really cool recording...guitars and vox...it's not easy to do justice to a GNR track...and this sounds good

#8860 Re: The Garden » Elephants May Be Wiped Out By 2020 » 927 weeks ago
Fuck this shit. Elephants are so cool...it would really suck if the assholes of the world end up loosing us such an amazing animal. I'm not really one for nature and all that - but come on - we can't kill all the fucking elephants....something has to be done!
