Thanks, good stuff there. I could swear I had seen some track(s) dated 1998 in those pictures.

Also worth noting: even though the dates are for the mixing and bouncing of the tracks, there's probably some actual recording sessions with the addition of Brain drums and Bucket guitar work.

exactly. I guess it was all happening in multiple "branches" - they used old stuff (pre-2000, including the Beavan album) and were re-mixing it, at the same time they were re-recording some parts, at the same time they were recording new stuff... I imagine that it all was happening in parallel and stuff was thrown in the mix all the time during the process.
that means two things - 1) it's simple to tell the (let's say) rough mix date - we usually have that one noted right on the CD. but it's almost impossible to tell when all the parts of the mix were actually recorded.
anyway. do we exactly know when Josh left and Brain joined?

Chinese Whispers say:
Last show of the [Primus] Australian leg was on 04/29/00. Brain would therefore audition for Guns in around May.

and news about Josh out of the band date to March.

that means one simple thing - the Rough Mixes #1-#4 are marked either from early 2000 or late 2000. they all are spread randomly around all 4 discs (we don't yet have the exact info from #2 but we can guess it's the same as the rest). at least the early 2000 stuff therefore can't have Brain on drums - as simple as that. we know that after Josh left, they auditioned some other drummers but didn't like any of them, so we can quite safely rule anyone else than Josh out - that means Josh is drumming on 100% of the early 2000 stuff (even though he was already out of the band).
we haven't heard the late 2000 stuff yet (still talking about the late 2000 MIXES! not recordings) - so there might be either Josh or Brain on drums. I'd say that it's Josh everywhere, but we still need to wait for the actual music, to hear if the late 2000 mixes sound the same as the early 2000 mixes and therefore it would be Josh everywhere.
the rest of the stuff is clearly either Brain (notes like New Brain Drums tell us that thing for sure), or it includes versions with both drummers to compare - and at that point we can know which of the drummers is there so we know roughly when the DRUM track was recorded. one could say that we would also be able to guess the recording times of the rest of the songs - but that might actually be not that easy. the rest of the songs might be recorded at any time by any lineup, and even if both songs will differ only in the drum track, we still won't be able to tell if the rest of songs was recorded in "Josh time" or later. the only way to tell would be only if the very same track would be included on the Rough Mix #1-4 discs.
huh. I think I overcomplicated it a bit, right?

Zombux, the new additions are in the gray sections, correct?

Have the DATs been shared online?

yes. I hope to update the sheet later today, or tomorrow, I need some time and focus for that.
some of the DATs have been shared long ago (like the Ruffs with new Slash guitar, or Mixes with Q-Sound), some are unreleased but photos surfaced either publicly (for example here - actually in this topic, but the uploaded pics are not online anymore... damn, I miss them and already asked Aussie for reupload), or in private groups I am, or were sent to me privately by my friends. nothing of what I put into the sheet is pulled out of thin air, everything is based on some evidence, and if it's some guess or estimate, it's also noted there (at least I hope I didn't forget to note that everywhere).

good! I haven't updated my sheet yet, will probably do it tomorrow.
the "undated" section is probably error, it's the Blues CD from 2001-07-13

I’m not sure if I still have the photos but I could dig them out and take some more if u want.

yea it would be nice. I've tried to include all the available info from UYI mixtapes in the sheet, but I feel like there's still many many of them around, missing from the complete-ish image smile

I still can’t believe this whole snippet game continues on. Just leak the whole  song or fuck off.

This shit has been going on for 15 odd years.  I know I’ve grown up and moved on during that time, have these muppets not had one ounce of emotional development during that period?

They’re songs recorded bloody years ago. Share it if u want and I’ll listen to it, but fucken grow up and stop playing games with short clips of songs for bragging or “I have this and you don’t” or whatever the fuck else they get out of it.

They must have pitiful lives.

exactly as you say.
(btw, do you still have the photos of old UYI mixtapes you posted some time ago? I'd like to check if I have all of the stuff mentioned in my sheet of recordings)

Yea, Atlas sounds like a turd. Another wretched pompous rock opera like Citr. Pass.

Checkmate, fuck yes.

I tend to think the same. sounds very like CITR, which for me is not really that intersting.
Checkmate/Hard School/whatever sounds very nicely on the other hand, I really like that one!

So, I am presuming these were the CD's given to Tom Zutaut Feb/Mar 2001. It will be interesting to see all the dates on all the CDs

no, some of the CDs already have dates like June to August 2001. so these must be of later date, or were stacked up gradually during Zutaut's time with the band (he was let go in November 2001 after the Village mixes were finished in October 2001 - if I get it correctly)

I can hear a little of Bowie in Axl’s voice on Atlas.

and I can hear the old SCOM guitar intro line buried in the background (but I am probably hearing too much into that)

OK, table updated. I attempted to include the newly discovered DAT tapes and Rough Mix CDs information from UYI and 2000 era.

I'm still not sure what to do with the AFD sessions mixes, I will probably have to rework the section in the same way as I did the UYI section and splice all the available dates and mixes into the chronology.

Honestly, I'm startled at how quiet things are the bootleg front. There haven't even been rumors of new leaks surfacing, and the remaining things we know are out there but not circulating (the internal documents and rehearsal footage) seem to remain in the hands of one, maybe two people.

This feels like being a fan around 1998! Although admittedly that was a GREAT year to be buying GNR stuff on eBay. 3

Well, it feels like with the remixes and the 2001 HOB footage having leaked, that's basically it for the Chinese Democracy stuff that's in circulation. Everything else is locked down tight, isn't it?

correct.
