I don't think promoting your music through a music-based video game is any more selling out than the bands who made videos for music-based channel MTV when it first debuted. People will gets used to this being the new reality soon enough. Those bands that didn't transition to MTV got lost in time. The ones who did make the move are now commonly referred to as innovators. It's not selling your songs to a cruise line or for a deodorant ad. It's like the people who bitch at artists for being featured in an iPod commercial, when iPod and iTunes is now one of the dominant ways to enjoy music. When does keeping up with the times and a changing industry become selling out? Axl Rose is a genius for this.
Slash ain't no slouch, either.

What the hell is a 999 call?

I adore Bale's Batman and am excited as shit for The Dark Knight, but Keaton's Batman is legend. Don't forget that. They both play Batman so very differently, but really work best at making their prospective director's visions come alive on screen. Keaton would be unbelievable as Nolan's Batman, but he worked better in Burton's nightmarish, fairy tale landscape. Bale brings a weighty plausability to the role that fits Nolan's world perfectly.
So I'll be lining up sometime between 9 and 10 PM on Thursday for this one. Hope that's early enough. I can't believe the hype coming into this. I remember Batman Begins' midnight showings being half-full at best. Those were the days. It was as much a "cult" hit as a big budget superhero movie could be. A mid-$40 million opening. This one is like The Matrix Reloaded. The fanbase has grown so much more since people caught on to the sheer brilliance of Batman Begins after word-of-mouth and on DVD that the opening will be tremendous. I just hope it has the legs Batman Begins had. That was a rare summer-long hit.

While all this falls into place, it'll be easy to forget those of us who where there "first," before there was even something to be first for. Those of us waiting patiently in the wings while tours and lineups imploded. I'm beyond excited at what's happening for my favorite band, I just hope the die hards aren't forgotten or lost in the shuffle while the wheels of promotion really gear themselves up.
By the way, be ready for an influx of new users we may not necessarily want to welcome with open arms. As this thing happens, the fanbase will only grow ... quickly and exponentially.

All this news AND The Dark Knight opens in a few days. This is a damn good week, so far.

Buckethead and Finck, together again. I think voting for Slash is pure fantasy. Not that it can't be argued a Bucket/Finck combo isn't right now, but I think that's a way more viable option consider the current material and the apparent goings on of this "forthcoming" release. Slash will always be my favorite guitar player for many reasons. Buckethead remains one of the most talented players I've ever watched/heard in my life. Finck's just damn cool. It's a tough one. As an aside, I was pretty set to vote for Bucket solo on this one, and I can see him out and out replacing Finck like he did once upon a time. But when all's said and done, I'd rather have Finck back in the fold even in a diminished capacity than not at all. A lot of what little charisma these new lineups may have had was brought to the stage by Finck.

Mitch Hedberg. Didn't know there was all this other love for him out there. Good to see. R.I.P.

This actually makes me extremely excited and I see this potential incarnation becoming the definitive lineup of the band. I hope it's true. That other rumored vocalist was utter shit. I didn't feel like posting as much in the thread at the time, everyone else seemed to be jacking all over him.
