Huh? Audioslave was about as commercial and anti-SG origins as it gets.

Compared to SG, yes. Compared to their contemporaries on the radio, they were outside the norm. And Morello is not a normal guitarist. He takes a different approach to guitar than someone like Slash does.

Yeah but wouldn't Audioslave be completely commercial compared to Rage Against The Machine as well?

SG and RATM weren't non-commercial bands anyway. So the discussion is just over degrees of commercialism, which isn't my original point.

Audioslave, RATM, and SG are all bands that are slightly weird in their own ways and to varying degrees. Audioslaves debut album is amazing. Cochise was a monster. And the beginning showcases Morellos non-standard approach to guitar well.

Scott went out of his way to admit the VR thing was a cash grab, when STP were back on the scene, and now he wants back in on that 'cash grab'.... says it all!

But Scott's douchery aside, I love me some STP, and they put out some great music.
I thought they should've left things with the album Shangri - La Dee Da, because that was in my opinion, the band's finest hour. Great ballads, great rockers, and real growth in their sound as a band.

Talking about great sad songs in another thread, how fucking great is Hello It's Late off that album!

SLASH ON SCOTT WEILAND: "EVEN IF I DIDN'T HAVE MY SOLO THING GOING ON, I STILL WOULDN'T WORK WITH HIM..."

Slash has blasted Scott Weiland (again) for claiming in various interviews that he was going to be rejoining Velvet Revolver, saying, "None of us have a clue what he's talking about… We're not buying it."

Weiland recently said that he thought it was "the perfect time for Velvet Revolver to get back together," telling Rolling Stone magazine, "I am completely open to it, and I know there are other guys in the band that are completely open to it."

In an interview in the new issue of Classic Rock, Slash was reluctant to address Weiland's recent comments, saying "I don't even want to give him this attention, to tell you the truth."

He added: "I think at this point Scott just got fired from STP and I think he's trying to pull off that trick of trying to get something else going on, and we're not buying it. The door's shut on this side and it's probably shut on that side too, so he's on his own. And he deserves it, too."

He continued: "Scott is completely speaking out of his ass (about the Velvet Revolver reunion). Nobody at this end has had any conversations with Scott on this subject, except maybe Dave Kushner, because he was the only one in the band who was really close to him. And all things considered, we don't have a good professional relationship with Scott. And it also pisses me off because he's put STP through so much shit over the years, and put us through shit too when we were working with him. In 2008, that was all over with, so at this point, when he starts coming up with this stuff, it's like, whatever."

Slash said he is in a good frame of mind these days and he had no intention of bringing a negative influence like Weiland back into his life. "It's been great," he said. "It's basically since I got my shit together and stopped touring with Scott. Even if I didn't have my solo thing going on, I still wouldn't work with him."

On a personal note. I think we all know why Velvet Revolver has yet to find a permanent singer... The ship has sailed on this one (a long time ago).

I think if Slash didn't have his project with Myles for quite some time, he would go back to VR. He's a workaholic, because he's an alcoholic and a druggie. He needs to find enough work to spend his days sober and survive.

I wonder what went down behind the scenes, or if Slash just hates Weiland for being a druggie asshole and making life harder than it had to be. Never heard Slash be so blunt about someone before haha

It would be interesting to hear Slash's frank thoughts on Axl, but I understand why he keeps things diplomatic.

I think drugs is more of an issue with Scott, that's why there's so much disdain. I noticed his comments about Rod Jackson were pretty harsh, called him a useless druggie, and Steven said something interesting in a recent interview.

Slash came into the studio at one point to play guitar on Just Don't Ask. "For me to be a part of Slash's life, I had to get my life together," says Adler. "Slash was proud of me for how I was able to take care of myself. It was so nice to be living in the present with him. The whole thing was like a dream come true."

If Slash is willing to cut Steven out for not being clean, he will have no qualms about Scott.
