Axl always struck me as a relatively bright guy despite being not educated and poor and shit. He seemed to be pretty down to Earth at one time and really not into bullshit

That being said, attractiveness aside it always has struck me as kinda odd how as such he got so fucking enamored with Stephanie fucking Seymour and then replaced her with Jenny Driver. I mean, Stephanie doesn’t exactly seem like she was a brain surgeon, and let’s be honest - fame aside - she was way out of his league.

He was this scrawny not really conventionally attractive, average height guy going with these 6 foot tall almost preternaturally beautiful blondes, and Stephanie left him right as GN’Rs popularity was beginning to flame out in 1993. He got so hooked on her but I kinda doubt a chick like that ever saw a long term future with someone like him.

Even Erin Everly, she may not have been in the same strata or whatever as Stephanie, but she was a Guess Jeans model. She also from the interviews with her didn’t seem exceedingly bright herself

Just weird how he never had a girl who was more like, on his level be it looks wise or attitude or intellect wise. The dude wanted so badly to be one of the “beautiful people” at one time

He's not like Di Caprio who's dating a new model every week. Seymor is the only real model Axl dated and he seems to have given up on women after that.

Why he did that I think is easy to understand. Average guy from a small town suddenly finds himself on top of the world. Of course you want a taste of all the best things the world has to offer, and for a young man with a nothing background, a female supermodel is the ultimate woman. I really don't think it's any different than Slash seeing a bag of raw, uncut heroin and going to town on that. The sensation is just too good to pass.

I also don't think there are many educated women hanging around rock stars hoping to suck their dick. When I was in school, the girls who would do that, were decidedly of the "b variant" both in terms of looks and intelligence.

Sorry, in what universe is 1980s/90s Axl "not really conventionally attractive"? Have you seen the man's cheekbones and jawline?

Yeah...Axl was hot shit in the late 80s. Had all the magazines been doing the "20-50-100 most beautiful people" thing like they started doing in the 90s, he would've been on every list.

Polluxlm nailed it....he went from being poor white trash to top of the world. The question shouldn't be why was he focused on Steph and some other models. The question should be....

Why didn't Axl date more models and actresses? Same goes with Slash and Duff. Their popularity at the height of GNR mania eclipsed movie stars.

They all sold themselves short... settled for porn stars. It's also possible they hooked up with actresses, athletes, singers, etc. but it never got out. Paparazzi weren't nearly as bad then as it was later on.

Remember the story of drunk.Slash and Duff crudely flirting with Whitney Houston backstage at the VMAs? For all we know, she invited them back to her hotel later on. As we now know, underneath the good girl image was a major party girl and coke addict.

Too bad he picked Seymour. I'd like to see the alternate timeline where he picks Turlington or McPherson.

Poor people becoming rich and famous have to be thrown for a complete loop. Toss in mental illness and it would be even worse.

Shit houses to mansions...nobody caring to everyone wanting to fuck you or be your friend...small amounts of drugs to huge piles.

It could drive you crazy.

This is why the rise of GNR is fascinating.  Especially for those of us who saw it.    They were basically street urchins who hit the stratosphere and made it BIG. And almost every member had some sort of debilating issue (even Izzy).  There was a certain danger or volatility factor that just didn't exist in the late 80s.

Duff did eventually marry a model. Out of the original five, he is probably the one who came through the other side with his shit most together.

My thoughts:

1. Axl was actually a surprisingly 'pretty' young man (I think this was what led to the trucker assaulting him) and in general like a few stars of the era aside from the hyper masculine persona's they are actually quite feminine looking. Like Axl was borderline male model kinda looks in his youth...in that kinda "pretty boy" way that Di Caprio was in Romeo and Juilet...like a little too fresh faced for a man but in a way that makes young women swoon. Boy band stuff but with a tough guy legit street kinda attitude.

2. Charisma. Axl has buckets of it. A sort of magmatism. It's why he can captivate a crowd. It's why back in the day he could get away with all kinds of bullshit. I mean I think he could look like absolute dogshit and still pick up a supermodel just with his vibe to be honest. There's something odd about him that works for him.

3. Rock Star.  GNR was like THE biggest thing on the planet for a time. Like 1991 Axl owned the earth lol. He could have any woman he wanted here so you can see why supermodels were his feeding ground. Add to this his bad boy thing...and that will seal the deal for many women....

I agree he would be better suited to a more intellectual woman though, he's clearly a bit of a thinker.

In addition to what others already said about Axl's background and then rock star status, it was the conventional rock star thing to do. Axl had role models from the '70s (Jagger, etc.) and that included this aspect as well.

But, according to a "source", he only likes "intelligent models" 14
