I can't express enough how much I hate that vocal effect, and everyone is using it anymore.  It can take a song that would otherwise be pretty good and make me not be able to stand it.

I also hate that vocal effect. What's it called? I've tried to explain it to my friends before but I've never had a ton of success.

Sounds like a crap song, but most popular songs do this century.

The effect is achieved by using a tool called Auto-Tune. Used right, it's a nice effect. I really like synth pop and the like. 808s & Heartbreak is brilliant. However, I do agree it's being used to death right now.

I do like this song.

Yeah but you can use Auto-Tune more subtlely than that. It's like they want you to know a computer fixed it. Which I don't understand.

That's why I like how Kanye uses it the best. I do see how this song can really irritate people. I don't even like Lil Wayne, but for whatever reason I find this catchy. I put it on a mix CD when it leaked.

This is the evolution of the voicebox or whatever effect it was that Roger Troutman used to use back in the day, probably the 70s. He was the one on Tupac's California.

I too love Kanye's use of it on 808s. Glad to see someone appreciates it.
