That does look pretty good. I'll add it to my queue.

Mission Impossible (1996) - This really does get better with age. Ill always get a kick over the reviews of this film back in the day saying the plot is too confusing.

It really isn't.

It's such a beautiful film too. Deserved some cinematography nominations.

It's mind blowing how young Cruise looks here.... like a college student. This dude probably never smoked, drank, or did drugs. If so...only recreationally.

Grumpy Old Men

Grumpier Old Men

I just love these movies. I know that second one gets a lot of shit but I like it. I don't see a problem with less grumpiness and how they're friends in this one.

It royally sucks that we never got the third one.

Cruise should be a textbook case on how to suceed and stay relevant in modern Hollywood for decades.  You don't have to like him to appreciate his longevity and success.  Relative few bombs and also guranteed blockbusters/films that make money.

Diabolique:  1996 film w/Sharon Stone and Chazz Palmeintieri.  Remake of a 50s French film.  Not bad but the ending was not believable and they should have sticked with the one from the original film that made more sense.  Stone is in fine form as a bitch here (for lack of a better term).

Sharon Stone as Ginger in Casino might be the best female performance of all time. She will always be one of my favorites for that role.

I'm rewatching the HBO series Six Feet Under for the first time in 15 years. I was debating with myself whether or not the show merited the 30 or so days of my life I would spend watching 60 episodes. I bought it way back when these type of shows were new. I liked it, but obviously not enough to rewatch it in 15 years. This is also a very liberal show, something I've grown less tolerant of in the decade and a half that has passed.

I figured if I live another 40 years, an optimistic estimate, this will amount to at least 0,3% of my total viewing time I have left before I die. 1/300. Or maybe that's 1/100.

Anyways I'm watching it and my assumptions were correct. I like it but I don't love it. I'm also the type of guy who has to see something through, so I'm stuck watching only this for at least 4 more weeks.

Definitely her best role...and I appreciate it even more now than I did back then...but best of all time?

That's a bold statement. 16

I can think of a few off the top of my head I'd rank higher...

Sissy Spacek - Coal Miner's Daughter
Natalie Portman - Black Swan
Jennifer Jason Leigh - Georgia
Margot Robbie - I, Tonya
Amy Adams - Doubt
Judi Dench - Notes On A Scandal

Edit

Of course there's also all the iconic performances from Streep, Foster, etc.

It would probably be near impossible to really be able to narrow it down to one.

Imagine doing that for male actors....

Watched Elvis. There was no way they were going to be able to make this the way I wanted it to be, but it was pretty good. Love how they handled the ending

It is. I'm picky about such things. I want the role to be demanding, but I also have to love the character to start talking about greatest ever. Maybe not fair but that's how I see it. Foster, Streep I never saw what is so impressive. Good, very good, sometimes great but neither of those would make a top ten list with me. There are a lot of good actors in Hollywood.

A role like Ginger is so hard to do without overacting. A lot of girls have done similar roles and very few are memorable. Somebody like Amy Adams can never own a scene like Sharon Stone does in that movie. It's like one of those very good MLB batters, yeah but they ain't Babe Ruth. I'll take somebody like Julia Roberts over Meryl Streep. What movie did she ever do that was so great?

We can start with Doubt...and then work our way down....

Kramer vs Kramer - She plays a really good  shallow, heartless bitch here.

Silkwood - This is definitely overrated but her performance itself is top notch.

Sophie's Choice - This one kinda goes without saying... considered one of the all time best. I need to watch this again.

She's supposed to be amazing as Thatcher but I haven't watched that yet.

Wouldn't a better question be...what movie did Roberts do that was so great...besides Erin Brockovich?  16

I agree not everyone could have pulled off Stone's role. It probably would have required someone like Heche or Sean Young...where it's more half acting while channeling their own demons.

While you might not like her much, Adams is probably the closest thing to a modern day Meryl Streep.... not sure what that says about the industry today.

I do agree Foster is probably a tad overrated but she has the iconic performance as Clarice...and of course The Accused. It gets to be slim pickings from there on out.

Anya Taylor Joy is great and has a shit ton of potential but I think her look may be a tad too distinctive (that voice too) to take it to the next level.
