He could've done so much in the 21st century if he wanted to. A solo career in many areas was there for the taking.

He didn't want to put in the work/effort. Even if he had, he had both Chinese Democracy and TB as huge anchors weighing him down.

Even if you want to believe the Interscope contract neutered him, it was his own doing. Doing solo work would have been fine, but face it…he hasn’t been creative since 2000, sans some work from 2002 to 2006. If he has been, there’s been no indication.
