i just listened to the entire trunk interview from 2006 again and at some point axl mentioned not drinking much, because alcohol dries his throat out and he just started clubbing again around that time. at this point i`m quite sure his voice problems stem from his recent alcohol abuse... not only that, but also his belly. it makes the most sense.

james, did you see this line up live? DJ is miles ahead of finck. his solos are better, his stage presence is better, his interpretations of slash solos are better, hell he even brings most of finck`s stuff to a new level... and axl`s stage presence sure isn`t diminishing. if there`s one thing to criticise it`s his voice, but having seen him 2 weeks ago, there were only a few moments where i thought he sounded off...

he definitely doesn`t sound worse than 2011. no fuckin way! i was stunned how great he sounded on paradise city in mönchen gladbach to be honest.

Because he's washed up as a live performer. I still think he has some good years left in the studio, but he seems to be wasting a lot of his time on touring instead.
Nah. I saw them several times on the last tour and Axl gave a top notch performance each time.
i have to agree with this. he`s definitely still one of the best performers around.

it was an awesome show! really, really great performance by everyone involved.
it`s a shame axl had to go on stage 2 hours late and they cut the encore, but i got to hear chinese democracy, shackler`s revenge, this i love, sorry, rocket queen, estranged, don`t cry and civil war for the first time live so there`s really no complaint about the setlist on my part! axl was in a great mood and delivered big time. a critical ear could make out his obvious not so great moments during some songs, but the casual fan surely didn`t and i was there with two very casual fans, who were blown away and will go the next time as well. axl had quite a belly, but he looked fit and i didn´t expect him to move around and dance as much as he did. as i didn`t get to see him live for 6 years i almost forgot what a great performer he really is, even at 50. for the most part his voice was really good by the way.
one thing, that really stood out was the superb sound quality and the tightness of the band. they`ve come a long way as a band, that`s for sure. a big difference to 2006 was the loudness of tommys bass, which gave the songs a whole new dimension! the solos were very well received by the way, although i personally thought it was a bit too much... definitely a good idea to make them into songs! and sorry russ, but even though i really liked robin, his awkward "solos" and dj`s ballad of death or whatever song he played are like day and night. both in quality and crowd reception.
the show ended at 0:30am and the venue was still packed, although it was heavily raining for half an hour or something. it wasn`t sold out but close to it.
i heard the capacity was like 12.000, so i guess there wer like 11000-11500 people there.
sooo.... what did i forget? one thing i also noticed is how the band members are working the crowd now. i don`t remember a lot of interacting in 2006. i guess that`s were ashba comes in. opening act were the "rival sons" by the way. an LA based band which seems to be heavily influenced by zeppelin. i really liked them.

i guess i`m in the minority, but i`m quite excited to see this setlist in 3 weeks.
#117 Re: Dust N' Bones & Cyborg Slunks » Velvet Revolver new album & reunion tour » 710 weeks ago
i`m not interested in a VR reunion. it`s always nice to see slash, duff and to a lesser extent matt together on stage, but i can`t stand what scott weiland adds musically for the most part. corey taylor on the other hand would`ve been a real improvement. a shame it didn`t happen...

they played there was a time! that`s definitely a song i`d like to hear live!
and civil war made an appearance as well.

i think twitter is the most useless and unnecessary thing emerging from the internet to this day... i`ve actually never heard of anyone using it where i live.

I've torn the cartilage in my left knee and still played the final 6 games of my summer ball hockey season in 2007. I'm the fucking goalie ina rec league for fun. Hurt like shit just to walk or extend my leg let alone play goal but I survived. I needed surgery at the end. It's insane to think I'm willing to sacrifice more to play ball hockey than Axl is for his fans and his art.
I broke my ribs at work a few years ago and missed the day I broke my ribs and that's it. Sucked it up and kept going and it was a physical job pounding legal pins with a sledge.
Tony Romo played with broken ribs and a punctured lung last year in the NFL.
To sit here and defend Axl Rose over a leg bruise and suggest the shows could not go on is insane. We could list things all day long where a person showed more balls and overcame much more adversity than what Axl would have to here so..........
i don`t think that`s showing balls.. you could`ve made it even worse by continuing (as you did with your knee, if i understand you correctly, thus the surgery)
but axl didn`t break his ribs or something like that. he should perform and i doubt he`ll cancel the show because of his leg... this is not the first injury he got while on tour.
