why so much negativity?

Well, first off, it's me.

Secondly, it isn't negativity.  It's fact.  Turn on your radio.  Tell me the last time you heard anything like this on it?  Whenever the last White Zombie album came out?  1995ish?  It's not cutting edge - it's a bunch of 90s music thrown into one pot and stirred.  That isn't getting played on the radio anymore.  Hootie and the Blowfish, PJ, Nirvana, and Alanis Morrisette are the 90s bands that gets played on the radio today - not Prodigy, NIN, White Zombie, etc.  I couldn't tell you the last time I heard any of those bands on the radio or TV.

Why would you expect this to be different?

Ah, what's wrong with different?  All the greats were great because they were different than anything heard before.  Vanilla music, and rock in general, is a disgrace as far as I am concerned.  Different to me, when good, is refreshing, bold, and visionary.  Oh well, you like Norman Rockwell, whereas most of us like Van Gogh--we get it.

I agree with some of your points.  It was played on a major station in my area, and most of the feedback was negative, although some people noted--if it wasn't GNR, they would like it.  Which brings up one thing, that the management must deal with--latent Axl-hatred, for really no good reason.  That's a whole different conversation though.  Some others said it had a nice industrial vibe.  Really, like any song, one should listen a few times before writing it off.

But I must say, what you state as fact, is not true.  I mean, what dork-ass Muzak station are you listening to?  I have stations in the metro I live in, where I can hear Alanis Morrisette and Hootie in the Blowfish, right next to A-ha, old Madonna (Celebrate, etc)--in other words it's a soft-rock Muzak station (either a Satellite feed, Clear Channel syndicated, or awful elevator station).   BTW, Zombie has released some great stuff since 1995, and I listen to a few killer alt. rock/modern rock stations that play Zombie, NIN, Prodigy, etc.  So, I am curious, are you living in hole, are your ears clogged with wax, or do you just have selective hearing which you use to make a point?  I have watched your messages, which jump off the page like someone with impotence issues who is angry at the world, for awhile.  If you added some perspective, other than just slamming everything, maybe one could believe your so-called "facts" more easily.  Nonetheless, you have a right to your opinion, albeit it flawed, subjective, and non-factual.

Can someone explain something to me, as I don't play these games--is the version on the game the same that would be on an album?  Or, is it changed/cut/re-recorded to fit the format of the game?

Nemus, is your leak schedule contingent upon the games release date, or a presumed single release/radio release?  I am assuming, you don't believe this would leak in August, if the games overall release is delayed by a month or two--unless, you believe Universal is shipping this to radio regardless of the games release date (revised or sept. 14).

And wasn't Oh My God released without his permission?

Go read the encyclopedia sized meaning of the song he wrote while promoting it for End of Days and saying how great it was.

Then after doing that, go check his excuse after the world hated it.

Why the hell would they need a "test the waters" track

I'm amazed you would even ask that after enduring the 96-08 period.

The band, or the article on www.gunsnroses.com didn't say that "Shackler's Revenge" was tentatively gonna be on Rock Band 2.

Yeah, and the HD ad didn't say Better would "tentatively" be on the commercial.

We got Paradise City instead.

I remember similar hype during that. Fans saying "THIS IT IT!!!", "they're gonna blow our minds with Better as the 1st single!!", and whadda ya know....

We're rocking out to AFD instead, and about to do so again as its getting a vinyl re-re-re-re-release when their full concentration should be Chinese Democracy.

1999: Oh My God/Live Era
2002: re-emerged with a medley consisting of 2 AFD tracks while announcing CD starts now.
2006: Better about to launch/PC instead

Hard to believe I'm the only person detecting a pattern.

No matter what happens, we always wind up with AFD again.

Lets look at the recent happenings.....

Finck looks for relevancy
Two ancient demos go on sale on Itunes
Shackler gets announced
AFD to be released for the thousandth time(why? It never went out of print) with the Rape cover intact.

Forgive me if I'm not 100% convinced that Chinese Democracy starts now.

James, the back catalog releases are controlled by the label.  The vinyl re-issue is part of a different trend (due to it being on of Universal's top sellers all time), and has nothing to do with Shackler's, CD, etc.  Below:

On July 8, Minnesota-based Best Buy said it was introducing records at select stores in Canada and the United States.

Recently, three entertainment conglomerates -- the Warner Music Group, Universal Music Enterprises and Capitol/EMI -- each announced that come August, they would be reissuing as many as 30 albums each from their back catalogues every month until the end of the year.

#335 Re: Guns N' Roses » Appetite For Destruction gets Vinyl re-release » 879 weeks ago

I have an original copy of the vinyl album, one of the versions which survived the 1987 recall, with the sticker still on it.  Let me tell you what, there is no better way to listen to Appetite, than on organic vinyl!  In fact, the record buying public is onto something (the dramatic increase in vinyl sales)--those of us who still listen (really listen--no changing the song 10 seconds in) prefer vinyl.  It has the best sonic quality, bar none, of any format.  I am listening to an original, thick vinyl, version of Miles Davis "Bitches Brew" right now, and am amazed at the live/intimate/rich feel of the recording.  CD's seem too "tinny" or "digitized" for my taste.  Moreover, the artwork on vinyl is amazing (esp. on Bitches Brew)  I hope CD comes out on vinyl, and am happy to see Universal issuing numerous vinyl re-issues.  There is something very special/intimate about listening to an album, while holding, viewing, reading the insert, smelling the artwork and packaging for the record itself.

Hey all,

Let's stat with the basics.

A. That wasn't Ryan Lesser in the video - his voice on his voice mail box @ Harmonix was NOTHING like the guy in the video's voice.  Trust me, I listened to it about 10x just to make sure - definitely not the same individual.

B. The XBox 360 Release of RB II is scheduled for September 14th.  Keep in mind that the game stores typically get the games in 3 - 5 days ahead of schedule (with two weeks ahead not being uncommon) with a requirement to 'street date' at whatever the date is.

C. Playtesters who currently have RB II do NOT have the Shackler's Revenge track, to my understanding.

D. Assuming that the US retailers for Rock Band II get the game the day before release (let's say September 13th, although that's cutting it awful close) - we need to allow about 10 days at the least for packaging, disc duplication, etc, etc.  So that puts us at a 'gold' date of September 3rd at the absolute LATEST (This is assuming the game isn't delayed.. but Harmonix is pretty good about their sticking to release dates)

E. At that time (again, more than likely before, September 3rd is the 'D-Day' I'm throwing up here) review copies will go to press.. probably with a requirement to 'embargo' the details of the story until the release or maybe a few days beforehand.

Because of this - I would suggest the absolute LATEST we'd have a leak of the track would be September 3rd.. although I'm still putting it close to the third week of August or so, knowing how the game industry works.

Also, keep in mind, if there *ARE* plans to release it as a single, I'd think the single would day / date release with RB II - which means that yes, another source would be out there to source a leak from, again, two weeks or so prior to release.

So - my best guess is we hear the track by August 20th.. with a 'worst case scenario' by September 3rd, if this follows any of the patterns of leaks that have occurred before.  It would not shock me, though, if the thing showed up somewhere as soon as tomorrow wink - We shall see smile

Hope you all have a great day,

-darknemus

We will find out the week leading up to Labor Day weekend if this is going to be a single or not.  Singles, big singles for Fall albums, tend to drop just prior to the last big travel/leisure weekend of the summer.  Labor Day is a prime time for radio, and the large inherent audience is recognized by the music industry.  Many people listen while traveling, at the lake, ocean and while outdoors enjoying the weekend.  If it is not on the radio by Labor Day weekend, then I doubt it's coming out as a single, and that "negotiations" (for whatever reason) are still ongoing.  If we don't see it on the radio (OFFICIALLY-- not a leaked version), by the time RockBand is in stores (mid-September), then CD surfacing in 2008 is questionable at best.

These #'s, showing the jump, will not be complete for a few days--the chart lags a little behind the data, so the jury is still out.
