Hmmmn, well she's already dragged him in, but whatever...

Late entry on this thread: that's lame because if he retaliates verbally they can just hype it up as more axl rose misogyny, I really think setting your fucking WIFE on someone (verbally./tweets etc) is pathetic because whatever the other guy does he can't come out of it looking good.

I don't know how this all shook out (or if it did), just sayin'... cool

Never understood his fascination with Nirvana, and what made it even worse was Cobain's disdain for Axl/GNR. Kurt couldn't even hold Axl's jockstrap.

Yeah that bugged me too, Nirvana are OKAY, I listen to them to this day, but not close to Guns, or FNM or NIN or L7 or Soundgarden, etc etc...

Actually I even prefer Hole! 16

I think a lot of it was Guns didn't get a lot of critical respect because they came from the whole glam rock era thing and their songs at first were about good times, so they didn't have that whole angsty vibe that Nirvana & grunge had, that critics and the media really respected.

GnR and Crue etc were all kind of a joke to a lot of more mainstream media, whereas Kurt got hushed voices and respect that just escalated when he killed himself. Which I'm very sorry about but I doubt if Slash had died from an OD he'd have been accorded the same reverence. (OT, I read a biog of Cobain that said he was a bully at school, and it's pretty messed up that he then marketed himself as a poor victim/pro-feminist etc. But I'm going off on a tangent there. cool)

My theory is it's because the wannabes and never-was's who go into music journalism want to hear that rock stars are suffering, and not rolling like pigs in clover in a world of groupies, money and drugs on tap! 16

I'll drink most beers but really prefer red wine, trouble is it fucks me up because I drink it at the same speed...:headbang:

Jack & coke's my alltime favourite, but price is a factor, I try for duty-frees and sometimes get some at Xmas off friends/family. cool

Got sent this a couple of weeks ago, SO SO true! 16

Another thing I wanted to say about this is I think it does a disservice to fortus. I agree with the first half of your statement, he's a fantastic guitarist and a great live peformer.

But to use him to insult others is kind of what makes people ingnore his actual abilites and dislike him and that's a shame.

Yeah, I can see how it reads like that, but it wasn't my intention - just that I happened to prefer his stage performance over (pre-pacemaker btw) Slash.

But in my head because of the whole AFD/Lies/UYI stuff Slash is already on a kind of pedestal just for his playing, even if he went on and make Steven Hawking look like a breakdancer, and that's context that I didn't manage to get across in my post.

Slash's intro on Ain't It Fun alone is so moving I sometimes can't even listen to it, no other guitarist made me feel that way ever.

Long story short I love all incarnations of GnR, just that some stuff I like better - loved Adler's manic-lion look on the Ritz 88 video for example, though I don't think technically he could hold a candle to subsequent drummers.

None of the old band (or any people who've joined and left since) have suffered career-wise (or financially afaik) for being involved in GnR, so while it;s probably disappointing if a player you like leaves, I don't understand any need to hate their replacemtns, all of who are equally talented and bringing something of value to the band.

Yeah I think his lyrics are consistant too, I mean lyrically Madagascar or TWAT are in NO ways a devolution from say Rocket Queen, or Think About You!!!

Imo he's at his best writing about his inner state, and there are songs like that across their career. The real talent is although he lives a lifestyle so far from any of our day-to-day lives, there's still always something there to relate to, even if you're living on welfare cheques in your parent's basement. 16

It's a humanity that has the same challenges and fears regardless of wealth, fame and status, and he does that into words very well. cool

In an ironic twist, Izzy ran Axl down the most, WAY more than Slash, yet Izzy was the first to be let back into the fold.

I think they had the closest friendship, and that can happen, I've seen it with my own long-time friends.

because they tend to know all about you, the good and the bad, things can get ugly if two people that close turn against each other, but things can get patched up really fast too to the outside world because you were friends so long for a reason, and there's always going to be some love there no matter what.

That's just my experience anyway. cool

I'm sitting here Friday night and nothing to do now I just finished a project ahead of time, and it would be MOST unwise to go out & spend money on bevvies and so on, and it just occurred to me, this theory that any of us who;ve done a Mon - Fri job get hardwired for weekends. sad

What I mean is, I find staying in on the dull old routine SO much harder at Fridays & Sats than any other night! 17

You? cool

Slash is famous for that emotive kickass blues guitar. If I buy his solo album and he only played flute because he'd decided to branch out then I'd feel disapointed. He should sound like slash. The interesting change comes in what he chooses to use to accompany him using his natutal talent. It's the same with Axl. When I buy Chinese Democracy I want to hear Axl sounding like Axl - which he does, both it voice lyrics and melodies, and the interesting changes come from the things he's chosen to put with his abilities.

Amen and a dash of the old karma to that! 22:thumbup::thumbup:

Honestly, I don't want Axl to do anything "modern" like what's on the radio.  I think "modern" rock on the radio today is weak and not interesting at all.  I want Axl to embrace what he is, which is a great rock frontman, and be that instead of trying to progress to something that isn't progressive at all.

#60 Re: The Garden » Did you ever have a dream that was G&R related? » 819 weeks ago

^^ She's certainly kept her looks. 22

I have dreams where I'm in a like arena-stadium environment, watching a band or something, and sometimes it;s GnR or NIN or whoevere, but like most dreams I have it's never that accurate.

My usual dream there is I'm trying to phone someone from a public phone box to get inside and the phone won't work (classic frustration etc) even though I'm typing in the right numbers, then I usually get in and I'm really upset that most people have left even  though the band's still on (kinda happened at GnR @ Milton Keynes, people left before the set was over to get trains etc) and stuff like that, so they're not really about the bands but about me getting obstacles and so on. neutral

I did read a theory that every character in your dream is an aspect of yourself so maybe whatevr the band represents to you is what it;s about (though I have no idea with my own what that could be)... 22
