people didnt seem to care about wieland's feelings on that tape worm abortion
LOL...although I'm no Scott appologist overall...i've always liked the lyrics in that song...they kind of made sence to my crazy mind I guess!

YEah GNR was always a 'real' group not a fake one...and that's what made it so special...don't think there's been much similar really.

Yeah...i think he ment like - if they are going to use agressive music to torture people - its kinda an honour that his music was considered to be sufficiently agressive - like on a purely accedemic level - it makes a person proud to know even the government knows your band is badass.
The sad part to me though is the way people "Um" and "Argh" over the ethics of this kind of thing. In a way i respect metallicas stance here - like he said 'politics' divides people where music should unite...but then for me personally I feel we need to stand up at some point and say that some ethics need to exist and that torture-ethics is not 'politics' but a matter of basic decency. But then I know the terrorists are bad guys as well. But in my mind that the other guys are worse, doesn't give us a free pass to just walk away from the ethical principles that USA and others traditionally pride themselves on. So i feel that torture is never acceptable. But that's just me. Wow...I'm way off topic huh!
For the record i'm not bashing metallica over thing. I can see why they are choosing to keep neutral. I'm just saying i wouldn't want my own music used that way.
#8616 Re: Guns N' Roses » Baz Canadian Tour Cancelled. Opening for major act this fall? GNR??? » 922 weeks ago
Are you sure you saw Baz open in 93. Skid Row opened in 91, but I thought the 06 tour was the next time for Baz to open.
Nah the australian leg of the UYI tour was Rose Tattoo, Skid Row and GNR - melbourne show was Monday 1st Feburary 1993 - i know cos it kicked some serious ass and i was there - still have my ticket!!

Torture = Bad. Don't care why - it's always bad.
#8618 Re: Guns N' Roses » Baz Canadian Tour Cancelled. Opening for major act this fall? GNR??? » 923 weeks ago
I doubt he would open for Guns again. I liked it when he did, but I would think Axl would select a different opener this time around.
Why - he's popular with the guns crowds and pretty much in the correct genre for his own act. He opened for guns when i saw them in 1993 and then again in 2007....so it's not like Axl changes the line up automaticly...

Yeah the old school fans often feel that way..but i think in terms of iconic status to people who don't really know the band...they just see an angry redhead and a dude wearing a top hat...to the general public the UYI lineup was still GNR without question, but the current line up doesn't have the same respect out there.
Why wouldn't the Illusions line up still be GN'R? Because they replaced their unimpressive, incompetant drummer with a more reliable player? Because they had a touring rhythm guitarist fill in for Izzy, who was still represented on most of the then new music they were playing? Because of the addition of Dizzy, a talented keyboardist who gets all too often shit on even though he should have been the sixth member of GN'R since day one? The Illusions line up is the penultimate line up. Not all of us worship at the altar of AFD.
Yeah man i love Gilby and the UYI line up...i wasn't bashing it. I was just saying that to a non fan - basicly the only thing they recgonise and care about to think "GNR" is Axl and Slash....and therefore any line up with those two has street-cred as GNR and any line up without them - to the general public is NOT the real GNR.
The online Fans are different...some of us want only the AFD guys, some want only the UYI guys, Some want the buckethead 2001 line up, some want the 2007 line up, some want a mix...and all of us are pretty intense about what we want....but like to a mom and dad on the street who arn't special gnr fans...if they know the band they think Axl and Slash....

Slash: Damned if he does, damned if he don't.
so true. If he'd said he disliked the songs we'd have a ton of "leaks vs vr" posts....if he says he likes it then he is also full of it. There's just nothing he can say that will please people!
I wonder if he heard the "leaks album" we all have or a more finished version.
I feel like of the leaks - the old band could have done a version of IRS, Maddy, The Blues and TWAT. Yeah the solos would be a bit different and stuff but esentially I can hear those riffs comming out of the old band. If he hears Shacklers, Rhiad and Better and If the World - then those sound more like stuff the old band would never have invented.
I'd love to know which it was!
