Where is it mentioned that Fernando was giving out the songs?

It's probably in chinese whispers somewhere, it's been years since i read it. Look for the name Lourenco in there, all the Darknemus stuff was a good read. The early leaks came from songs shared by Fernando if i remember right.

Why, dear god, wasn’t he punished for theft? This is absolute betrayal yet he’s the ass grabbing manager now who can’t be bothered with copyright infringement legalities…..

How many hundreds of millions of dollars is this family responsible for losing?

It’s going to cost the G&R corporation a bundle. Would this money come out of S, D, and A equally or does the corporate entity have money to pay out? Just curious.

The copyright claim is binary: either the images were property of the band per contract or not.

The sexual harassment claim however is another beast. If emails exist then Fernando is toast. He can not continue in that role once this is litigated and ruled against him. He would be the target of past and future allegations for years to come, frivolous or otherwise…..probably be a lightning rod for other crew or band members.

I feel terrible for Kat because she’s truly an artist and deserves to be paid. Hell, we all deserve to be paid and not cheap skated by millionaires. Trump does this with his lawyers apparently.

On the bright side, Fernando’s career in the music biz and his family are in shambles. Couldn’t happen to a nicer guy. Hopefully, he can pick himself up and manage a Tower records or El Pollo Loco in the future. Just steer clear of this band.

Vanessa and Beta will probably stay on. Thankfully, not much direct wrongdoing from the band. They are however on the hook for Fernando’s fraud.

It's because it was never treated by anyone... including Axl...as a proper album.

Imagine Roger Waters or Chris Cornell using such an approach. They would probably have similar results. It isn't natural to start something like that, never go to the studio for months and years, and then restart everything. Then the next time you restart, one or two guys are gone and you gotta squeeze in new people into the mess you've created.

The whole thing was bat shit crazy...it was worthy of a documentary.

I totally forgot about this part of his life but he has said in the past that he has bipolar disorder. If this diagnosis is true, it could explain some of the actions/decisions/disappearances. If he was going through a manic episode, he would experience intense periods of physical and creative energy: it could motivate him to write, compose, perform, promise, overpromise, engage in self-indulgent behavior …..but eventually the depression takes over and he would recede inside himself.

The frequency of manic episodes depends on stress, effectiveness of medication, lifestyle…..but i’ve seen mania rest it’s ugly head once every 2 to 2.5 years.

From 1997-2012 or so, Axl’s behavior most definitely could be described as periodic, cyclical with periods of time in which he was neither in the public eye nor interacting with the band. Then suddenly there is a return to the public eye, promises of songs, an album,  a tour…..

Hard to say exactly if he was in stages of mania during periods of the CD years but I surely bet depression affected the project.

My opinion on Ezrin is now a complete 180. I used to think he was crazy for his harsh feelings on the material and/or trying to sabotage the project...now I realize he was on point.

I've reached a point of equilibrium on the whole saga. I think everyone was half-right and half-wrong. Everyone had the best of intentions with what they did. Axl. Slash. Ezrin. Azoff. And so on down the line. And this is why I think the only album we got was "2000 Intentions".

"If my intentions were misunderstood, please be kind, I've done all I could..."

James wrote:

In the end, Chinese Democracy got cluster fucked by a couple things...

In my book, "Chinese Democracy" is basically a meme that Axl fell in love with that eventually got stale.

It was the 1990s version of "Not In This Lifetime" or "Stay of Execution" or "Slash is in my ass".

I don't think an album called "Chinese Democracy" ever actually existed. In my view, we got an album called 2000 Intentions and some B-Sides or concepts for an aborted trilogy. "I'm sad at my girlfriend. I'm mad at my old band" - this is what nearly every song boils down to and why songs like "IRS" and "If The World" are such palate cleansers.

When I first heard the title "Chinese Democracy", I thought we were gonna get a dark Rage Against the Machine meets Nine Inch Nails meets KMFDM album. It's why I've always championed stuff like "Oh My God" and "Silkworms" because exploring in that direction is absolutely up my alley. But really, this album doesn't exist. We got the title track which went from a raw, hard sounding rocker to a bloated, tired mess and even in it's best iteration wasn't enough to carry the weight of that title. And we got "Shackler's" which is a pretty badass dance rock track and "Sorry" which, I'm Sorry For Axl, he completely shit the bed on living up to the instrumental with his petty lyrics. The only good line in that song besides his Count Chocula voice is "it's hard to live with the truth about you instead of the lies about me". Pure venom and I tip my hat to him but again, this is where the likes of Ezrin were right. You work and rework this song until it's an absolute monster.

James wrote:

Turning it into a leaks + 3 bonus tracks to fill out the album

It's an interesting topic.

"Appetite" is the young party rock album, "Lies" is growing up, "Illusions" is grappling with love, loss, and fame and "Chinese" is essentially disillusionment and an attempt at redemption. This is my greatest criticism of Chinese Democracy, as I noted in the previous paragraph above, it's basically all about the same topics. The only song that really has a different style, lyrically and vocally is "Better" and that's should've been the transition point to CD2 being about "redemption and acceptance". This would've been a whole arc and kind of tie everything together.

But we just don't have that. Our only hope is that Axl laid down some killer vocals 2004-2010.

And even if we did, the majority of the stuff we have left is still ruminating on the past and 1990s nostalgia, in other words, byproducts of a depressed mind.

As I huge CD fan (usually the demos),  I think you are on point: there are some truly remarkable ideas on CD: Madagascar, Better, Prostitute, Catcher… but the execution was lacking. (that album mix of Maddie was an atrocity)

But what was up with Axl? He rarely showed up the studio with the band, worked haphazardly….distracted perhaps?

The project was huge, the expectations were overwhelming,……. perhaps he overthought it?  or failed to realize that Slash, Duff, and Izzy were the counter ballast he needed to work effectively.

I might even hazard a guess that he might be neurodivergent: ADD treated with wonderful medication focuses the mind to contemplate great ideas but spreads out actual execution far too thin.

Think up six great ideas. Start the first with a fury, transition to the second in a moment of inspiration but fail to follow through on the first, then another and another..so many great ideas but all lacking structure and the requisite blood, sweat, and tears needed to finish them.

Fans suggested it at the time.

I cannot predict what songs will succeed as singles: maybe it’s just a blind dumb luck that a song gains enough interest/ word of mouth to chart….

Better, Madagascar, Blues are all substantially better tracks than Perhaps yet here we are.

I’d suggest they release a bunch right now to capitalize on the public’s eye view of Sauron gaze on the band.

Release a box set of everything and take my money!

This.

Give the musicians their chance to shine after decades of waiting.

Prove the critics wrong.

Give the fans what we have been begging for. The market research has been done: We will pay dearly and happily for a thorough Chinese Democracy box set.

Don’t worry about packaging and perks. It could even be a lossless FLAC or AIFF release, without any manufacturing costs. Just get us the music.

$1,000 for 20 or more CDs worth of outtakes, demos, rough mixes, etc.? Take my money.

Wrap it up in paper towels for all I care. Just gimme!!!

I think Bucket just brought some crazy ideas to Better. It wasn’t a fully fleshed out song when he joined the band unlike TWAT, IRS, The Blues, etc. So he probably had a lot of leeway to add what he wanted. Three Dollar Pyramid sounds pretty set to where it ended up, imo.

Bucket is capable of creating slow, emotive music. It’s a shame they selected his shredding/tapping so often for the original tracks (not the re-recorded album shite).

It's an instant buy for me. I know I said I wasn't buying Perhaps after the jukebox fiasco but The General makes it a game changer.

I bet they set it to ‘honor system.’
