#2131 Re: Guns N' Roses » Who should be GNR's next lead guitarist? (If needed) » 904 weeks ago

My personal thought would be to let NuGNR die as far as this perceived image of them being "a band".  To bring yet another guitarist in again - yawn.

If he wants to write more music, I say knock himself out - get 100 different guitarists to write guitar licks for him.  He can then pick the stuff that he likes the best and cut and paste it into his next solo project.

But as far as hiring someone else again just to try and hold this version of GN'R out as being a band - don't waste your time, the revolving door of band members has spun for too long.  I think there is only one person left he can call in order to sell to the public the concept of GNR actually being a band again.  BUT from my read that ain't ever happening.

But, the problem for Axl is that the money these days is made from touring not album sales.  So you come back to the same problem of how are you going to sell the concept of GN'R being a band to the public when there is yet more lineup changes with new guys, playing the old guys (in some cases the old old old guys stuff).

It's kind of ironic, Axl wanted to control everything and he basically got what he wanted.  From an artistic point of view he has done whatever he has wanted with no compromising with other band members.  But this is a double edged sword, in the process of achieving this he has bascially destroyed all marketability of the other guys in regards to the concept of GNR actually being "a band".

I have the same feelings. I follow GN'R's story, cause it's more like a soap opera than anything. You know, the same things happen again and again, some new storylines, but it continues in the good old, familiar patch.

I feel exactly the same way.  I was just saying to someone the other day that I'm in a different space now regarding the CD saga compared to what I was.  I find the whole thing now highly entertaining, it's champagne comedy and I really get a kick out of watching it now, it's like a soap opera as you suggested - or a black comedy.  You couldn't possibly pay writers to come up with a script as good as the real thing. 16

I feel the same way too, I have hardly even poked my nose into the main GN'R section of the board.  I'm really not all that interested at the moment.

We have the CD now so everything else just seems a bit tiresome.

Merry Christmas to all (only a few hours left here in Oz b4 the 25th).

My fiance keeps wanting to watch some Christmas Carol stuff that's on and I keep flicking the TV over to the Victoria Secrets Fashion Parade which is showing. Grrrrr  20

Can someone explain who/what he was referring to with this part of his post:

The sharing thing is interesting but even with all this time the complications of the red tape and trying to get something out fall on my world to sort and not theirs. They are amazingly supportive and do their best to keep me in up spirits and focused which I had less and less of in Guns way before Sweet Child caught on. If that were to change then that may be something to look at. I hope for us to grow more together as we continue so who knows.

Also he talked about an instrumental for End of Days - what's that about?  Or was he just referring to Oh My God (but that wasn't an instrumental?):

The instrumental I wrote for End of Days that’s more a solo effort at least presently.

That posting of Axl's at mygnr - WOW!

He seems pretty happy to talk about most things.  It's really good to hear his side of the story on a number of things.  I wish he would have done this sooner!!!

There doesn't appear to be anything he won't talk about.  THe only questions he seems to defer are simply because he implies he will answer at a later date.  Presumably because they are indepth and require adequate explanation to do them justice.

Be careful that reunion door doesn't hit you on the ass Slash as it slams shut.  16

#2137 Re: Guns N' Roses » Questions for Axl if he visits GN'R Evolution » 908 weeks ago

Hey Ax, my questions would be:

Do you still hope to get married again and have a family of your own?

#2138 Re: Guns N' Roses » AXL Posting on GNR Forums! » 908 weeks ago

D - I think your reaction was indicative of a lot of peoples feelings.  What Axl has done I think has gained him a lot of respect and turned around a lot of people that were really starting to doubt.  I imagine he probably looks back and wonders if he should have perhaps reached out like this a little earlier.

For a relatively simple goodwill gesture like this it actually has a lot of mileage.  More so than if he had broken his silence with a magazine article.  This was a direct line of communication to the hardcore fan base and I commend him for that.

Yeah Sic did a fantastic job!  Great to see the evo name "up in lights" in a cool mag like CR!

The amount of work Sic put into the Chinese Whispers section purely for this site was enourmous.  For it to have then led to this recognition is a testament to this work and much deserved.

Damn it - the spamming of the threads over there with ridiculous questions doesnt help getting good info and Axl was happy to talk.  You post and then it gets lost with ridiculous questions like "do you like Coke or Pepsi Axl?"  He was ready to answer this question:

Axl
Someone give me a list of all the alleged song titles at once and I'll tell what's real or not. Most from the past like cockroach soup or eulogy aren't.

Unfortunately no reply.  Really cool he chatted for so long and was so open though.
