#231 Re: Guns N' Roses » Chinese Democracy Chart Positions Thread » 872 weeks ago

We can argue all day either side but yes Best Buy did hurt sales at least to some extent but NOT as much as the lack of promo.

The comparisons are between Black Ice, Death Magnetic and Chinese Democracy appearing over and over in this thread.

With that in mind I can make the only comparison that matters:

1. Black Ice - Better than most post-The Razor's Edge AC/DC albums but still not very good.  Three songs are decent, two good and the rest forgettable.  At best a C album.

2.Death Magnetic - Metallica hasn't put out a solid album in years but this one is getting closer.  Half the album sucks, a couple of songs are good the rest very mediocre.   At best a C- album.

3.Chinese Democracy - It's not the original band members but there are some strong songs.  Only three or so suck, half are really good and the rest are at least decent.  I think it is a solid B to B- effort.  Although these ratings are totally my opinions and nothingmore I think this is the best of the three albums and (to me) that is the only comparison that really matters.

Merry Christmas to everyone!  Have a great time of happiness with your loved ones and be safe.

I hope he doesn't stray too far from tried and true.

Michael HAS to have his mask.
Michael must NOT talk.
Michael can't show emotions.
Michael can't fight rappers...lol.

Other than that I guess I'm wide open as long as the story is good.

As far as my reaction from friends they all like Better, IRS, The Blues, and TWAT.  Decent reactions to If The World and Chinese Democracy.  The rest they could do without although my girlfriend thanks Madagascar is brilliant in terms of writing and she of course (girls..sigh!) LOVES This I Love.

As a "die hard" G n R fan i'm still undecided as to wethere CD of AFD is my fav

10  Not me, AFD kicks the shit out of ANY other GNR album and most any other rock album.

His other obsession is Pearl Jam, whose album Bianural (or something like that, is his fav. I am a casual fan, who likes ten.

Ten doesn't make you a "casual fan".  Ten, VS and the underrated Yield are their best three albums.  Bianural is considered one of the weakest efforts by Pearl Jam by many other hardcore fans other than myself.  That doesn't make your friend wrong, just trying to illustrate my point.  You can't genarlize such things.

As for U2 The Joshua Tree and Achtung Baby are among their best albums (imo) I wouldn't call that a "casual fan" either.

I am a die hard Metallica fan and I, along with many others would site Master of Puppets as their best work.

Agreed

As for Nirvana, no die hard fan woould site nevermind in the top 2 albums, personally i dislike in utero, but that is the die hard fans favourite.

Uhhh...they only had three proper studio albums, some rarities, a live album and an unplugged album so saying "no die hard fan" would put Nevermind in the top 2 is stretching it.  I have many friends who are HUGE Nirvana fans and their #1 choice is almost always either Unplugged, Bleach or Nevermind.  Most didn't like much of In Utero because it was largely incoherent, yet a great album.  I'm not a "casual fan" I have everything they ever did.  I would put Nevermind just under Bleach and just before the Unplugged album.

This post wasn't to pick on you but simply to point out some overstatements.  I'm a fan of U2, GNR, Radiohead, Metallica, etc and I'm not a "casual fan" but a near obsessive compulsive fan of the bands I like and just because "casual fans" happen to enjoy some of the more "mainstream" hits does not mean the album isn't warranted as a top or near top effort by the particular band.  At the same time I DO agree that many "casual fans" do miss many artists best work but that happens in all art, however you simply can't make a generalization about all the examples made as being only "casual fan" picks.

Anybody remember that appetite for deconstruction album that had techno versions of appetite?

I had that, fuck knows where it ended up, it was awful lol!

Yeah, unfortunately I have it along with a couple other similar ones.

Unless the dealer is selling to children or is creating danger to myself or loved ones then I would never rat on someone either.  There are people in jail for years for selling nothing more than pot yet others walking for MUCH more serious crimes.  Noone's making "customers" buy from these guys, it's all choice.

Well I do.  Not so much the youngsters working part time in retail but I've had a lot of problems switching my utilities over during my recent house move.  It's a shame if the customer service staff don't get paid what they think they should but I still expect to get the services I'm paying for.

That's the thing.  None (well most of us anyway) don't get what we would like to be paid but don't take it out on somebody else.  If you hate your job that much quit!

#240 Re: Guns N' Roses » What affect did the leaks have on you? » 873 weeks ago

I truly think the leaks contributed a HUGE portion of the negativity we are hearing now.  I can remember years ago when people were blown away by Chinese Democracy, Madagascar and The Blues when the "New GNR" first played them.  In 2006 people were going crazy over Better, T.W.A.T. and yes even I.R.S.  Those same people today have did a 180 acting like the songs are mediocre at best.  That's not an insult to the people saying these things simply a result of being "burned out" on songs before they were ever released.  The amount of time it took to release CD is responsible for that more than any other reason.
