speaking of weak singles....U2 was quite flat at the Grammy's....kind of disappointing...hope Radiohead plays a rock song.

Damn I totally forgot about that. Has M.I.A. performed yet? If she has, no point in me watching the rest.

Speaking of Asians, who can forget her.....

U2 was awful, and the M.I.A./Kanye-lil Wayne, Jay Z bit was atrocious!

This show, I do not think, would be released as a a concert DVD, as it was marred by massive audio issues when the soundboards burned up.  As I recall, multiple instrument feeds were inaudible throughout the show.  I remember the live feed, and the subsequent rips of this show, where on multiple songs, Robin, and Ron's guitars were completely inaudible.  I think right after the show GNR and Stinson commented on the issues, stating they were having all kinds of nightmares throughout the show.

I had not listened to the album in a few weeks, and did tonight while driving home from work.  Sounded great!  Maybe it was giving it some time to sink in, or that I had been listening to horrid rock on the radio for awhile and it was just superior, but for whatever reason, it really sounded great!  Love the album even more than I did when it came out!

Someone mentioned on another board one is floating around--would love to hear it!!  It was described as a weird al type take of the song. Does anyone have a link to it?

The only thing left for this saga, if GNR form holds true, is for lawsuits to start flying.  I went to Best Buy the other day, and the place was a ghost town.  Just wonder how long even the strongest of these big ticket electronics stores can hold on in this economic climate??  I pretty much expected this drop-off, so not shocked.  I doubt this album pushes many more than 5K a week from here out.  GNR, if they are going to function as a band with a smaller (albeit highly dedicated) fanbase, needs to connect online with their fans via high end content releases, demo releases, free bonus songs, etc.   Doubt it happens, but there is always hope.  Radiohead, Porcupine Tree, NIN all do it effectively so there are real world examples of this strategy working.  Keep in mind CD has outsold In Rainbows worldwide--so they can be successful with lower album sales--tours and interaction would help.

IMO

The Edge is about as diverse a guitar player alive!  Heck, he even plays a mean banjo when the notion suits him:buckethead:

MMJ are awesome--seen em live four times.  It Still Moves, Z, and the live Okonokos (live album and one of the best live DVD's ever) are great albums!!

Not to interrupt the U2 lovefest, but I think Porcupine Tree is making more cutting edge music than about anybody out there right now:

This band, with Billy Preston on keys is pretty good!!  BTW, could one imagine this band playing CITR--stripped down, just flat out playing without the 29 layers which collectively create background hiss?  Axl "Get Back" is what i say--doesn't have to be with the old members, but at least back to finding a groove and exploring it with five instruments, instead of some 67 piece orgy of layered sound.

I highly recommend the 26 minutes below:

--let's clear a few things up.  Best Buy bought 1.3 million copies.

--It's sold about 1.7 million worldwide .

--1,700,00-500,000=1,200,000

--1,200,000 + 1,300,000=2,500,000

UMG has sold 2,500,000 copies worldwide, and 1,700,000 have been sold by retailers.  This in 6 weeks.  These are good #'s in the current climate, for a band who had over 50% of the press and DJ's raping them for the past ten years, and then pouncing on them when the release hit.  There were many elements licking their lips to rip Axl and this band a new one.  Some say this album had a ton of hype--maybe so.  It also had more negative spin and hype than any album ever released.  I've never seen so many people write something off they had no familiarity with--many attacked and claimed it "sucked" without hearing a lick of the album. It is amazing how quickly people are swayed by peer pressure.  If someone else say's "it ain't cool" they just go along with it, and rip it, repeating the same ol same ol.  One of the local DJ's I listen to , said the album was great when it first came out.  Claiming is was an 8.5 out of 10 or better when it first came out.  Then, after seeing the charts for a few weeks, he now not only refuses to play the CD but will play old songs, when people request the new stuff.  What happened to rugged individualism???  The industry, radio, and the press have no balls--little do they know, they are all on a self-inflicted, methodical death march.  It's not just this album, or this band, but at this time there is no better example of "herd-follow the leader" behavior on a mass level I can think of.

With that off my back--to hell with the herd--I am building my own castle!
