The Greatest Hits album sold pretty well.

The album sold well because it featured most of the original lineup's hits in one place for the people that didn't want to buy the whole collection or those that wanted to complete their collection.  If they had released the re-recorded AFD instead (and actually told people that's what it was), it wouldn't have sold nearly as well.

I got the book, but haven't had a lot of time to read any of it yet other than just a quick skim
I must say though it looks amazing and I can't wait to read it.

One part I did read though was on the recording of Rocket Queen

"After the whole ordeal, Axl took me upstairs to his hotel room where we were staying and he played me November Rain for the first time on a piano. He told me that it was something that he wrote when he was fifteen. And it was the most beatiful thing I had ever heard. It was awsome."
- Adriana Durgan [The Rocket Queen]

I thought that was pretty cool that he was so obsessed with the song even back then, also refering to another part I saw somewhere in the book about how he snuck into an auditorium to play some chick the song as well tongue

He wrote NR at 15, felt it wasn't ready for AFD in 1986, and finally released it in 1991?  Maybe what we're experiencing now isn't really out of the ordinary for him?

I'd love to hear some to be honest.  I don't know much about the Replacements other than they supposedly influenced a lot of average bands.  Maybe I missed something.

Nobody other than the band and it's associates are going to push the album if it ever comes out.  Why would they?  gnr doesn't sell anymore - as the people that love the new band like to point out, this isn't 1991 anymore.  gnr appeals to mostly an older audiance that isn't watching the reality bullshit on MTV , so there is no motivation for MTV to push it.  Maybe VH1 Classic, but that in itself tells the story.

CD will outsell Libertad, but it might not outsell Contraband.  Either way, this band won't have staying power.  If there is another gnr album released after CD (I know, ha ha ha), it will see the same results as Libertad once the curiosity factor is gone.

While it's hard to say "never" anymore, I don't see there being a juggernaut musically anymore - not in rock music at least.  Rock music has never been as unpopular as it is now with the mainstream media.  Look at the charts these days.  You'll see matchbox Twenty (who I enjoy listening to), Daughtry, and Nickleback.  I don't consider any of these bands what I would call traditional rock bands.

Curiosity led to the purchase of the first album.  There wasn't anything to draw people into this one.

I've told the couple people I know about the new site.  I'm sure people will trickle back, but it might take some new news to get some of the people to come back.

The PS3 has been good to me, but with money a consideration, I would say the Wii is great for kids and the 360 is better if it's for you.

#6719 Re: Guns N' Roses » Comparing Axl Rose to the greats » 924 weeks ago

Neemo, not everybody was drawn to Axl.  Some people were/are huge gnr fans because of other people in the band.  Slash and Izzy had a lot to do with the resume you're crediting entirely to Axl.

They grew to be huge in a short period of time, but also flamed out almost as quickly as they rose to that level.  I'm good with Axl being top 20, maybe top 10 for a big fan of the band, but there's no way he's top 5 all time for anybody being objective.
