#81 Re: Guns N' Roses » what are we disappointed with? » 875 weeks ago

these are the things i don't like about it...and the reason i don't like them is because we were led down a different road as to what to expect not by media but by Axl and the GNR camp themselves:

- its a leaks album

- it not "big" enough for me...i expected at least a DVD to be included in the package...a tshirt and a belt buckle is not good enough...

- poor quality artwork

- no "story" to it....

- no interview from one person i would like to hear from the most

- no video(s)

- i still don't know who is in the band

having said that, there are lots of things about it that i do like...

i hate the booklet artwork...its neither innovative nor is it well executed....the overall color combination is ok, but too many amateur errors in there to make it worthy of the content on the disc itself...

on Frank's page, there is a low res graphic (clearly diffed off a website somewhere) and never properly resized for print, so it has pixelated edges...uncool...

typography just plain sucks, whoever did this is a layout person and not a graphic designer worthy of any mention, let alone a credit on the sleeve...

the "bought" artwork is what saves it for me, the photograph on the cover is great, the Red Star painting is awesome and Sasha Volkova's Red Cross is very very cool....other than that, its a poor poor effort...

I hate to break it to him.... it didn't work.

really?
didn't it?

i recall him getting a huge advance for a product which didn't exist, booking and cashing in on two(ish) large tours which were very well attended...all off the back of an album which didn't exist...

Axl was selling us CD for the last 10 years, and we all lapped it up...whether we liked it or not, we went for anything he threw at us...

i'd say that it worked pretty well...

now that the album is out in the open, he may need a new strategy....but he's made good cash out of us selling us something which never existed...

The reference to personell and the scaling down of the extravagence of the tour says to me, the technicians and crew reponsible for creating the live experience were not booked to continue  that production post december. They cant push for them to continue simply because as a professional outfit these guys will have other projects scheduled for 2009.

how i got it (with his record company mention) was that he is out of money to keep everyone on board for 2009 and to execute this the way he really wants to...so they will scale down the operation to a bare minimum, for financial reasons...until he gets it all together again...

if you go to http://www.5fm.co.za/ which is the major radio station here (and coincidently the one who sponsored GNR's arrival in SA when they eventually canceled)....they just opened the voting lines for CD....after playing it...

so far...70% thought it sucked, with 30% thinking its good...

if you feel like voting, its on the home page, next to the dj's face, under "Poll"....you can rate it there...

it took forever for them to play it down here, but they finally are making an effort, and after having taken a few calls for it...its pretty clear that people here know how to hold a grudge....everyone was referring to the canceled concert appearance and how they hate the song purely because of that...

no wonder Universal is not interested in promoting it here....

#89 Re: Dust N' Bones & Cyborg Slunks » Guns N' Roses: Home Videos » 876 weeks ago

didn't Robert John end up suing Axl over some unpaid fees for some stuff he shot for them...?

Looks like he decided to finally share his shit when he realised Waxy wasn't going to ever pay his fee...

Shame, I feel sorry for this guy in a way, George Chin always seems to get all the GNR photo glory, and he's been there from the start apparently...

nice find though...karma...

#90 Re: Guns N' Roses » Reason Axl Rose not promoting album? » 876 weeks ago

GNR always had three major unique points which guaranteed sales...

1. Slash
2. Axl's voice...
3. Izzy's songwriting

All three together equalled world domination...fuck with that formula and you are not going to make it in the big league...eliminating Slash worked for a short while when Bucket was in the band...for a second there, it could have worked....but then he fucked that up too...

Axl's voice was the only thing which was left over as the main attribute, and considering that they remixed and effected it to death on the album, means that the only drawcard they had was also killed off...

only thing which will bring this album back to the top of the charts is if Better comes out with a kickass video to boost it, and Axl goes to Rolling Stone or Kurt Loder and starts talking....

otherwise, this is as good as it could have been....i think over time, the album will do decent numbers, like all of GNR's releases, but it won't excite the world like UYI did at the time of their release...

only thing which is selling this album now is the name...and the promise of hearing Axl Rose at full throttle again...but considering you could hear it for free on MySpace....people were given the opportunity to decide whether they wanted to buy it or not...and judging by the numbers....I'd say most have decided not to buy it...
